Georgia vs. Texas point spread: Early betting odds released for SEC Championship game
Georgia and Texas are all set to play each other for the second time this season. The Longhorns punched their ticket to the SEC Championship game on Saturday night with a win over Texas A&M while the Bulldogs learned a week ago that they’d be making their seventh trip to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the league title game in the past eight seasons.
According to FanDuel.com, Georgia will be an underdog, just as it was when it knocked Texas off in Austin over a month and a half ago. Kirby Smart‘s team was a four-point underdog when that game kicked off and this time it’s +1.5 according to FanDuel.
It marks just the third time in the past four seasons that the Bulldogs carried that underdog tag. One was the game at Darrell K. Royal Stadium earlier this season and the other was the Bulldogs 10-3 win over Clemson in the Duke’s Mayo Kickoff game in 2021.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 23-0 in the first matchup between these two teams thanks to four turnovers from Texas in the first half. The Longhorns went on a 15-0 run to pull within on score but Georgia mounted a quick response and it’s best drive of the day.
It covered 89 yards and took the game into the fourth quarter. Trevor Etienne capped it off with his third rushing touchdown of the evening and the Bulldog defense, which racked up 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks, put the game away.

Texas is 11-1 on the season, its first in the SEC. It has wins over Michigan, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt, all of which were ranked at the time but now combine for 17 losses now that the regular season is over. With that said, the Longhorns grabbed an impressive road win at College Station on Saturday in the renewal of one of College Football’s most intense rivalry.
Georgia has put its fans on a roller coaster ride this season and the brutal schedule hasn’t helped. The Bulldogs have played five teams currently ranked inside the top 15 in the country with Clemson likely to tumble outside of that group after it’s loss to South Carolina. They have losses at Alabama and Ole Miss but they also have wins at Texas, versus Tennessee at home, and against Clemson inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium to start the season in the Aflac Kickoff.
UGA is coming off a Black Friday showdown with Georgia Tech that went into eight overtimes. The Bulldogs trailed by 17 at the half and by 14 at two different points in the fourth quarter before pulling out the 44-42 win.
