Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter is considered one of the top available players in this year’s NFL Draft, and he’s proving to be a pretty good person too in the pre-draft process. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic shared a story that’s pretty telling of Carter’s character in his recent profile on the standout prospect.

According to Feldman, Carter spent his own money to help feed a teammate of his, walk-on Weston Wallace, this past season after learning that walk-ons weren’t getting all the same meals the scholarship players were.

“Jalen heard about that. I’m the only walk-on in the defensive line room and he goes, ‘I’m not gonna let that happen.’ So he used his scholarship money to pay for me to get lunch every single day,” Wallace shared with Feldman.

Carter finished up his Georgia career by being named an unanimous All-American in 2022, one of just 13 in program history. He totaled 32 tackles on the season including 7.0 for loss, all of which came in a five game stretch after returning to full strength from a few injuries that bothered him early in the year. Carter earned Bednarik Award Player of Week for his two-TFL, two forced fumble performance in Georgia’s win over then-No. 1 Tennessee. He followed that up with a career-high seven tackles against Mississippi State. Projected by many as the top defensive player in the 2023 NFL Draft, Carter could go No. 1 overall and isn’t likely to slip far past that if at all.

Carter will be one of 12 Georgia players in attendance at the NFL Scouting Combine starting later this month. He’ll be joined in Indianapolis by quarterback Stetson Bennett, running back Kenny McIntosh, wide receiver Kearis Jackson, tight end Darnell Washington, offensive linemen Broderick Jones and Warren McClendon, outside linebackers Robert Beal and Nolan Smith, defensive backs Kelee Ringo and Christopher Smith and kicker Jack Podlesny in the same stadium where they won the National Championship over Alabama in January 2022.
