Gunner Stockton's 'switch', work ethic creating confidence at Georgia

The layers of Georgia junior quarterback Gunner Stockton continue to be unveiled as he works to take the reins in Athens under center.
His center, Drew Bobo, joined Steak Shapiro, DawgsHQ’s Rusty Mansell and former Georgia punter Drew Butler on ‘The Steakhouse’ on Friday morning to preview Georgia’s season.
Bobo had an interesting outlook on the personality of Stockton. Bobo expressed confidence in Stockton’s ability to lead Georgia’s offense if called upon this fall. Stockton relieved the injured Carson Beck in the SEC Championship Game and led Georgia to a late win over Texas.
Stockton started Georgia’s loss in the Sugar Bowl to Notre Dame in January.
“I’m confident in him because I see him every day, and he’s one of the most genuine nice guys, but he flips a switch when he comes on the field,” Bobo said. “When it’s game time or practice time, he just flips a switch and he’s a different person.”
Kirby Smart weighs in on Gunner Stockton
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart joined the show later in the morning. He has been most impressed with Stockton’s work ethic and process for film study.

“I love his work ethic,” Smart said. “I love his dedication and passion to film study. He takes notes every day. The detail matters to him. He doesn’t get really emotionally high or low. He’s not one of these people that’s up and down, and when he messes something up, he keeps it moving. I love his competitive toughness.”
Smart also spoke to Stockton’s on-field ability as well.
“He may not be 6-foot-4, and people say he doesn’t have great arm strength, but he has really good arm strength,” Smart said. “I like the way he goes about his business.”
Georgia has yet to name a starter at quarterback. Stockton is continuing to battle Ryan Puglisi for the position in preseason camp.
