ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia is in a ton of trouble in its own house. Georgia Tech has dominated the first half with over 300 yards of total offense and it holds a 17-0 lead. DawgsHQ has some thoughts on what we’ve seen thus far and we’re sharing it below.

*** The performance on both sides of the ball was abysmal in that first half. This has been a total failure thus far on the part of the coaches and players. Georgia’s offense, which had built some momentum coming into this game, looked awful. The plan has seemed strange as well and, as the score indicates, ineffective. This Georgia Tech defense is not very good and it has shut the Bulldogs out in the first half.

The defense has been awful at finishing plays and Tech his made way too much of some plays where nothing was there because the Bulldogs were out of position. The Yellow Jackets have looked like the team who has a chance to play for a championship.

*** Carson Beck looked okay in the first half. He hasn’t gotten much help, but he has missed some opportunities in the middle of the field. Beck hasn’t been among Georgia’s biggest issues at all but he’s certainly not elevating guys. It’s also tough to get into a rhythm with the drops and the turnover. He has delivered a few really nice throws in this game.

*** Nice start from the running backs but not much after that. Nate Frazier made a nice cut on the first play of the game but I thought he could have run with better vision in short yardage late in the first quarter. Roderick Robinson got carries earlier than I would have thought and Dwight Phillips looked fast on his only carry of the first half.

*** Where were the tight ends for most of the first half? Good things seemed to happen when Ben Yurosek got involved on the second-quarter possession that ended in a fumble. That was a big catch from him to convert third down.

That takes us to the horrible receiver play. Two big drops and a fumble in the first half loom very large right now, especially the first drop and that fumble. Arian Smith, Dillon Bell, and Dominic Lovett had first halves they would love to forget although Bell did make an excellent play on the quick slant back in the first quarter.

*** Defensively, Georgia has been awful across the board. They’ve gone a decent job dealing with the interior run game, but that’s about it. The tackling has been extremely poor and the pressure is non-existent.

*** I have no idea what’s going on in the Georgia secondary but Tech is getting all it wants through the air. This is a passing game that wasn’t all that impressive coming into the game and it is looking like one of the best in the country tonight.
