ATHENS, Ga. — We’ve reached halftime of the top-10 showdown between Georgia and Ole Miss and the Bulldog offense has been nearly unstoppable. UGA has reached the end zone four times in five possessions while the defense has gotten a couple of stops to give the home team a lead. Below, DawgsHQ tells you what we think about the first two quarters of play.

*** Carson Beck has been very sharp in this first half. His worst throw went for a 41-yard gain to Ladd McConkey. It was way under thrown but McConkey was that open. The 29-yard strike to McConkey for UGA’s second score was an impressive throw. He has been in complete control outside of the interception. That ball could have been caught but probably not the best idea to force it there in that situation.

*** Both Georgia running backs are having great games. Daijun Edwards has been the most explosive, finding holes and finishing runs. Kendall Milton is pounding the rock. He has broken several tackles already. Ole Miss is having a really tough time getting him on the ground.

*** Brock Bowers is just an unreal competitor. He has been a weapon for Georgia as a blocker but he has gotten involved in the passing game as well. McConkey and Rara Thomas each had big plays in that first half. Georgia is a dangerous offense with McConkey and Bowers on the field at the same time. Dominic Lovett made a couple of nice plays on that final drive before the half and could have made that catch on the interception. That’s a tough spot but he got both hands on it.

*** The Georgia offensive line is dominating the line of scrimmage. Ole Miss is a good pass-rush team but it hasn’t gotten anything going against the Bulldogs. The front five is also blowing Ole Miss off the ball in the run game. Xavier Truss has played both left and right tackle and has looked really steady.

*** Ole Miss has found a seam or two against this Georgia defensive line but they’ve controlled the interior run game more often than not. Nazir Stackhouse and Tramel Walthour were instrumental in that three-and-out that allowed Georgia to take a two-score lead.

*** Inside linebacker play has been lackluster. CJ Allen, from my vantage point, appears to be struggling. He ran himself out of a couple of plays on that second Ole Miss touchdown drive and one was on the touchdown when he scraped right past the hole. Smael Mondon has also missed a couple of key tackles.

*** Georgia’s secondary is playing quite well since the first play. Ole Miss has some explosive, talented wideouts and those guys are going to make play. This has been Javon Bullard’s best game at strong safety. Tykee Smith has made a couple of tackles in space as well. Tough break for Julian Humphrey. He looked to be in a lot of pain after that tackle on the edge. Daylen Everette got picked on early but he hasn’t shown up much since and that’s a good thing.

*** The crowd tonight is pretty elite. There are around 90,000 Georgia fans in this place and they are very much into the game.
