Halftime Notes: Georgia trails Notre Dame 13-3
NEW ORLEANS — Georgia scored first but it has been all Notre Dame since. The Fighting Irish lead 13-3 after a disastrous end to the first half for the Bulldogs. Notre Dame gets the ball first to start the second half but before that happens, DawgsHQ has some thoughts.
*** Gunner Stockton has looked super shaky at times and he has made some really nice plays. It seems as if he’s taking advantage of his opportunities down the field and he’s doing a good job of giving his guy a chance, but if Georgia isn’t pushing the ball downfield, nothing is working.
*** I’m a little surprised Georgia isn’t trying to get downhill a little more. I didn’t expect it to be as pass-heavy as it has been, especially from deep in Georgia territory in the second quarter. That was a poorly-called drive in my opinion although I know they were trying to be aggressive.
*** Nate Frazier has to become a bigger part of this game on the early downs. Frazier and Trevor Etienne running the ball inside is what will keep this offense ahead of the chains. With that said, Notre Dame is crowding the box and Georgia has to take advantage of one-on-one looks a few times in the second half.
*** Receivers have done a nice job. They’ve caught everything catchable and they’ve blocked pretty well. Tight end blocking has been a little hit or miss at times.

*** Offensive line has gotten whipped for most of the first half. There were a couple of solid drives but Monroe Freeling has really struggled in pass protection. Georgia inserted Earnest Greene at right tackle and flipped Xavier Truss over to left tackle for the final two plays of the drive.
*** Defensive line play has been really good. Riley Lenoard has spit out on a couple of run plays but nothing really other than that. The pressure got a little inconsistent there in the second quarter.
*** The EDGE and linebacker play has done a good job against this Notre Dame offense. The Irish isn’t having a lot of success on offense period but definitely not in the run game. The second level of the defense is also really getting after Notre Dame.
*** The secondary has given up one or two plays but Notre Dame has simply made the most of its opportunities to build this lead. I feel like this level of the defense is going to have to come up with a turnover if Georgia is going to win this game.
