George Pickens might turn 90 career college catches into a round-two 2022 NFL Draft pick.

PFF has Pickens within the top 60 on its draft board, even though he only appeared in 24 total games at Georgia. That torn ACL that freaked a bunch of Georgia fans out last summer?

Just a blip on George Pickens’ receiving radar.

He went on to finish his Georgia football career with 1,347 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns. Pickens didn’t even have a touchdown catch in his four-appearance 2021 season.

And his potential may still carry him no further than the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

A gamble for any franchise that tries it? Certainly.

Worth it? Watch Pickens’ highlight reel and find out for yourself:

Will George Pickens’ highlight reel be enough to bolster 2022 NFL Draft status?

Pickens has an impeccable highlight reel. That instagram clip plays all the hits.

Pickens played in 12 games in 2020, eight games in 2021 and four in 2022. Many college wideouts would need close to three full seasons to compile a “Best of” montage like that one.

Even though the highlight reel shines, I still think George Pickens has more to prove at the 2022 NFL Combine.

Incidentally, that’s where Pickens hauled in a spectacular diving beauty.

You can see it again here (where did his glove go?):

As impressive as Pickens’s highlight reel with limited source material is, the limited source material will be his biggest NFL Draft hurdle.

NFL scouts are always looking for reasons to tear potential picks down. That’s their job! It has to be, with this much life-changing money on the line for each Draft pick.

No matter how good the work looks, a Covid-shortened season and an injury-shortened season make Pickens a bigger gamble in GMs’ eyes than a lot of Georgia fans might assume.

If Pickens lasers in on his laser times and receiving drills in Indy, he can position himself as much more of a sure thing.
