Incoming Georgia receiver ranks near top of ESPN transfer list
ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren shared a list of College Football’s top transfers on Wednesday, and incoming Georgia wide receiver Dominic Lovett was near the top of the list. Coming in at No. 4 according to VanHaaren, Lovett joins the Bulldogs from Missouri where he led the team in receiving yards this past season with 846 on 56 receptions, averaging 70.5 yards per game.
After putting up 173 yards on 26 receptions in 13 games as a freshman, Lovett led the team in receiving yards (846) on 56 receptions in 2022. He had three touchdown receptions and averaged 70.5 receiving yards per game. A three-star prospect from East Saint Louis, Illinois, with experience and multiple years of eligibility remaining, he should have plenty of options.
The Georgia staff made the receiver position a priority in the transfer portal this offseason. They are adding in Lovett, as well as Mississippi State receiver Rara Thomas, though Thomas’ immediate future may be in doubt following an arrest on Jan. 23. The team’s leading receiver this season was tight end Brock Bowers, followed by Ladd McConkey. Adding both Lovett and Thomas gives the staff some excellent options for the offense and likely some protection against injury next year.

Smoke Bouie comes in as a second incoming Georgia transfer, ranking 20th according to ESPN’s list. Bouie played in seven games at Texas A&M last season, totaling just four tackles, but was a highly sought after recruit coming out of Bainbridge (Ga.) High School, a top-100 overall prospect according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Bouie was the No. 66 prospect in the 2022 class out of Bainbridge, Georgia. He was the No. 6 athlete and No. 5 recruit in the state. He chose Texas A&M over offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and a handful of other major programs. He played just 117 defensive snaps in 2022, picking up two tackles. He has four years of eligibility remaining.
Georgia is going to lose some of its top players in the secondary over the next few seasons, so adding in young players to fill those future voids was important. Bouie doesn’t need to start right away, and given his tumultuous start at Texas A&M, he can get himself acclimated to the culture at Georgia, develop in its system and work his way onto the field. He has the talent to be a great defender for Georgia.

Georgia also added Rara Thomas by way of the transfer portal. The Mississippi State wide receiver caught 44 passes for 626 yards in 12 games this past season in Starkville, finding the end zone seven times. That came after a 2021 season that saw him haul in 18 balls for 252 yards and five scores. Thomas was not included on ESPN’s countdown but comes in higher than both Lovett (No. 11 overall, No. 6 WR) and Bouie (No. 71 overall, No. 10 CB) in On3’s transfer rankings, No. 10 overall and No. 5 among wide receivers.
While Georgia added talented players, the Bulldogs lost a few too. Former five-star Jaheim Singletary ranked No. 25 on the list while star pass catcher AD Mitchell came in at No. 42. Mitchell was the highest ranked Bulldog either coming or going according to On3, ranking No. 4 overall as he heads home to Texas.
