Jalen Carter to the Philadelphia Eagles: Social media reacts
For the second straight year, the Philadelphia Eagles have taken a Georgia Bulldog with their first round pick in the NFL Draft. If we weren’t already considering the City of Brotherly Love to be Athens North, we ought to be now. Jalen Carter is headed to Philly where he’ll reunite with college teammates Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean, a trio that helped guide the Dawgs to one of the most dominant defenses in recent memory and Georgia’s first National Championship in over four decades.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and players in attendance that get picked have made it a tradition to embrace each other with handshakes and bro-hugs. Carter, Georgia’s only player in attendance this year in Kansas City, shook the internet as he met Goodell on stage.
Dallas Cowboys defensive star Micah Parsons wasn’t all too pleased to see Carter picked within his division. While he won’t have to line up opposite of him, his teammates will, and Carter’s added presence only makes it harder for the Cowboys to make it out of the NFC East.
Add fans of the New York Giants to the list of people not thrilled to see another Dawg in their division. Please excuse their foul mouths. It explains their disdain for the selection well though.

One person who was happy, Carter’s new teammate in Philadelphia Jason Kelce. After some speculation that he might retire, veteran offensive lineman announced his return for 2023 and probably is pretty excited to have a player of Carter’s caliber joining the team.
While we talk about new teammates, why don’t we address the old ones too. Nakobe Dean had 72 tackles for Georgia in 2021 and was a leader in the middle of it all at the inside linebacker spot. Meanwhile, on the defensive line, Jordan Davis acted as the head honcho for that group and guided a guy like Carter through the early years of his collegiate career. Together they combined for 69 stops including 14 for loss.
In Athens, the team showed their excitement and shared it on social media. I’d bet several Bulldogs are big Eagles fans now.
Here’s how the folks in Philadelphia reacted to the pick. They’re excited!
