Justin Shaffer bids farewell to Georgia on social media
One of Georgia’s stalwarts on the offensive front has said his goodbyes to Athens, with offensive guard Justin Shaffer making his move to the NFL official on Monday afternoon.
“Dawg Nation, first, I would like to thank the man above. Without him, I would not be the man I am today. I also would like to thank Coach Smart and the University of Georgia for giving me the opportunity to be a student-athlete at the best university in the nation. To my family and friends, I appreciate all the love and support you have shown me in my time at UGA. My goal was to graduate and leave the Georgia football program better than I found it. I have accomplished both of those goals in my time here. To my teammates, my brothers, I will cherish all the time and moments that we have had together. Those times and bonds will never be forgotten. It is at this time, and after careful consideration, I am excited to announce that I am officially declaring for the NFL draft. 54 Out,” he said via a statement released on social media.
A lengthy, productive career for Justin Shaffer
From Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia, Shaffer was an On3 Consensus three-star prospect in high school.
By the end of his time in Athens, he was one of the oldest players on the 2021 team, having already used 5 years of eligibility.
Shaffer was one of few on Georgia’s 2021 roster that was also on the team when the Bulldogs made the National Championship in 2017.

In his first two seasons at Georgia (2017 and 2018), Shaffer saw action in 20 games as a reserve offensive lineman. While he made his first start for the Dawgs against Tennessee in 2019, he would end up missing the last 8 games of the season with an injury. In 2021, Shaffer was named to the AP and Coaches’ All-SEC 2nd Team and started all fifteen games, playing 88-percent of all offensive snaps on the year.
During his tenure, Shaffer featured in 51 games for the Georgia offensive front.
While consistent starters Sedrick Van Pran, Warren Ericson, and Warren McClendon are all expected to return to Georgia next year, Justin Shaffer plans to join Jamaree Salyer in the Reese’s Senior Bowl later this month.
