Kearis Jackson announces return to Georgia for 2022
Georgia wide receiver Kearis Jackson announced that he will return to the Athens for the 2022 season Tuesday afternoon. The Fort Valley, Ga. native took to social media and posted a graphic stating, “Let’s run it back!”
Jackson has become a fan favorite among Dawg Nation the last few years and leader in the locker room too. Over the course of his career, Jackson has caught 55 passes for 771 yards and 4 touchdowns, leading the team in receiving in 2020 with 36 receptions for 514 yards and three scores. His career-best performance came that season in Georgia’s top-10 clash against Auburn, hauling in nine passes for 147 yards including a long catch of 49, all career highs.
Joining the team in 2018, Jackson saw action in his first two seasons but dealt with many injuries including a broken hand that caused him to play in a cast early in the 2019 season. In 2021, injuries were once again an issue for Jackson, undergoing a procedure on his knee prior to the season. And while he played in every game, the fourth-year wide receiver only had 14 receptions for 178 yards and one touchdown, which came on a 36-yard TD catch against Florida.
Jackson has also served as an important part of Georgia’s return game the last two seasons, returning a punt 52 yard against South Carolina in 2020. That put him atop the SEC for longest punt return. He also had a 56-yard kickoff return versus Florida that same season.

Given the youth in Georgia’s receiving core, Jackson will be relied upon once again. Georgia brings back Ladd McConkey and Adonai Mitchell to go along with leading pass catcher Brock Bowers, as well as guys like Arian Smith, Dominick Blaylock and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint that were limited in 2021 due to injury. But, the Bulldogs saw Jermaine Burton leave via the transfer portal earlier this week. Justin Robinson and Jaylen Johnson have also left the program for other options in the portal.
However, to help in replacing the lost production of that to the portal and George Pickens to the NFL Draft, Georgia signed three wide receivers in December (De’Nylon Morrissette, C.J. Smith and Cole Speer) and is set to bring in another (Dillon Bell) in February as a part of the Bulldogs’ No. 3 ranked 2022 signing class. Morrissette and Smith are both already enrolled in school at Georgia and will get a head start as they go through spring practice with the team.
