Kendall Milton to miss time after knee injury in practice
Georgia sophomore running back Kendall Milton suffered a knee injury at practice on Wednesday. Details of the injury are not known at this time, however, it is clear that it will not require surgery. Milton will miss a couple of weeks. Jake Rowe of Dawgs247 was first to report.
In two seasons at UGA, the Fresno, Cali. native has proven to be an important piece of the running back rotation when he’s been on the field. At the same time, he’s proven to have a little bit of an injury history. As a freshman last season, Milton suffered an MCL sprain against Florida that caused him to miss three games last season. He returned for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against Cincinnati. Then, this season, he missed Georgia’s 62-0 win over Vanderbilt with a shoulder injury.
Milton has had some of his best career performances during this season. Against South Carolina, he rushed for a team-high, and career-high, 66 yards. Against Arkansas he received a career-high 12 carries. He also posted his first career touchdown against the Razorbacks. Then, most recently against Kentucky, Milton broke off the longest run of his career for 35 yards, nearly taking it to the house. On the season, he’s the team’s third-leading rusher with 243 yards on 49 carries.
Milton was voted to the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2020 by both the league’s coaches and the Associated Press. In seven games, he rushed for 195 yards on 35 carries while also catching one pass for 22 yards. He led the team with 56 yards on eight carries against Tennessee, and posted 44 yards on six carries against Alabama, including a season-long 24-yarder. He gained 30 yards on six carries in a win over Auburn.

Depth in the running back room is rarely a concern for Georgia, however, Milton’s injury might lead to that. Fellow backfield mate Kenny McIntosh has missed the last two games with hamstring tightness. He was not cleared for practice on Tuesday. So, it’s a good thing for the Bulldogs that the injury comes during the bye week, allowing McIntosh to get ready to go.
At the top of the room, there’s no doubt who the leaders are. Zamir White and James Cook have combined for 696 yards and nine touchdowns on 130 carries. Cook adds the element of pass catching out of the backfield, as does McIntosh when healthy, with two receiving touchdowns.
