Georgia Football head coach Kirby Smart competed in the annual Peach Bowl Challenge golf tournament on Tuesday at Reynolds Lake Oconee just outside of Atlanta. Alongside teammate Tommy Tuberville, former Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas Tech and Cincinnati head coach and current United States Senator for the state of Alabama, Smart finished fourth and made $12,500 for charity.

Smart’s day got off to a start with a bang – literally – as the head coach of the National Championship winning Bulldogs was pranked on the driving range. Smart went to swing his driver, hit what he thought was a range ball before it went up in smoke. After a puzzled stare at the ball., Smart turned around smiling.

Smart and Tuberville then made their way on to the course where they held a slight lead over former Mississippi State and Florida coach Dan Mullen, teamed up with current UCF offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, through nine holes. Other coaches competing included South Carolina’s Shane Beamer, Syracuse’s Dino Babers, NC State’s Dave Doeren, Louisville’s Scott Satterfield, Army’s Jeff Monken and Pitt’s Pat Narduzzi as active head coaches alongside legends of the sport like Steve Spurrier and Frank Beamer, among others.

Tournament Format and Results

The tournament is played in a two man scramble format with Stableford scoring as the 11 teams compete for a share of the $330,000 charity purse. The first-place duo split $60,000 between the two winning coaches’ charities while the remainder of the purse is divided based on the finish of the other teams. Since it’s creation in 2007, the event has contributed $8.7 million in scholarship and charity, helping make the Peach Bowl college football’s most charitable bowl organization.
