ATLANTA, Ga. — Top-ranked Georgia took it to No. 14 Clemson on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium behind a dominant day from its defense and a strong second half showing from the UGA offense. It wasn’t without bumps and bruises though.

Defensive superstar Mykel Williams exited the game in the third quarter with what TV reported to be an ankle injury. Wide receiver Dillon Bell was also sidelined early in the second half due to cramping.

Williams wasn’t the only defensive lineman that exited the game either. Nazir Stackhouse went down and was attended to by trainers before returning. Like Williams, Warren Brinson also was forced to leave with what looked like a lower left leg injury. He missed time during fall camp with Achilles tendonitis.

Smart said X-rays for Williams came back negative as Georgia’s training staff took him to the locker room. As for Brinson, who remained on the sideline throughout the game, Smart said it was a contusion above the ankle.

“One was an ankle, and Warren’s was more of a contusion of some kind. I don’t want to say high ankle, but it was above the ankle. It was more calf, in there where he got stepped on he felt like,” Smart said. “And Mykel’s X-rays, they looked good, but I’ve seen that before, so we’ve got to go check it when we get home and see.”

Prior to their injuries, both Williams and Bell were impactful in the 34-3 victory. Williams, in his hybrid defensive lineman/linebacker role on the edge, came up with two tackles including one for a 5-yard loss while Bell hauled in four passes for 32 yards. Brinson exited before recording a stat.

Smart also added that sophomore defensive back Joenel Aguero missed the game after suffering a “pull” of some sort last Saturday. He did not practice Monday or Tuesday and participated only in walk-throughs on Wednesday. Aguero was dressed out and warmed up but did not play.

Georgia is back in action next Saturday against Tennessee Tech. Kickoff time between the hedges is set for 2:00 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.
