Kirby Smart reveals recruiting filter for Georgia in new era

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart channeled a bit of Rick James and Teena Marie on Saturday in front media following G-Day on Saturday.
Well, that was ‘fire and desire’. Smart tickled the sentiment when stating that ‘fire, passion and energy’ were the backbone beliefs of his football team.
He pointed to former five-stars Justin Williams and Chris Cole on Saturday. The duo is in their second spring and flashed this spring in Smart’s eyes.
“I’m excited about Justin and Chris,” Smart told reporters. “I’ll tell you that there are not two players on our team that play with more fire, passion, and energy, and we talk about it all the time. Fire, passion, show me your fire, passion, energy. They were having fun on the field. They enjoy each other, they compete and they love the game of football.”
Smart took it a step further. He sent a message to high school football players far and wide. Georgia is looking for lovers of football.

“If there’s anybody out there that’s playing high school football, that has fire, passion, and energy, and just loves the game, we got a spot for you,” Smart said. “Just come to Georgia. We’ll find a way to get you there, and fire, passion, and energy pay off. It’s not the ratings, or the stars, or all those things. It really isn’t. It’s just the kids that want to play the game the most right now, and those are the ones that play the best, and those two guys personify that.”
Kirby Smart focused on his house
The world of the transfer portal and NIL has college football looking around every corner at the potential of player movement. Culture is hard to grasp and hold onto at least in a traditional sense.
Smart knows that. He’s taken to the approach of worrying about his house first. Georgia has placed a premium on those who want to be at Georgia.
“You have to manage your culture as good as you can,” Smart said. “You’ve got to manage the players you take as good as you can. You have to move on and play with the players that are there. I really don’t concern myself much with it. I just focus on the guys that are here and the guys that we can get to be here, not worry about the ones that don’t want to.”
