Kirby Smart uncertain on severity of Branson Robinson injury
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia’s running back room took a hit on Saturday. Redshirt sophomore Branson Robinson left the game in the first half with a right knee injury. He went to the locker room and returned after the half with a brace on but did not re-enter the game.
“I don’t know that it’s real serious. I think it’s an MCL, a knee, a sprain,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said during his postgame press conference. “I don’t know how serious it was because we don’t have the MRI results yet.”
On the season, Robinson had rushed 22 times for 61 yards and two touchdowns entering Saturday’s win. He also had five receptions for 28 yards. Before exiting with the injury, Robinson carried it three times for 12 yards including the game’s first touchdown, adding a reception for five yards as well.
Robinson previously dealt with a knee injury, rupturing his patella tendon and missing the entirety of the 2023 season as a result. He was expected to be a contributor in the Bulldog backfield at the time of his injury and has returned to be exactly that this season. As a freshman, Robinson played in 12 games totaling 330 yards and three scores on 68 carries.
Should Robinson be forced to miss any time, it’ll mean more from Nate Frazier and Cash Jones, as well as lead-back Trevor Etienne. The Bulldogs are already without Roderick Robinson after he underwent surgery for turf toe during preseason and did not have Chauncey Bowens available on Saturday either. Bowens’ injury is undisclosed.
