Kirby Smart unites both sides of the aisle at Georgia State Capitol: WATCH
Kirby Smart had an answer for the red and blue divide we hear about too often every day in America.
As it turns out, the great uniting force at Georgia’s State Capitol, at least, is red and black. Let the record show that the prior sentence is not, in any way, a political statement.
You know someone out there thought it.
Smart visited the House and Senate on Tuesday, March 1st for a day of National Championship recognition. The date carries significance, as it marks the start of the NCAA’s recruiting dead period.
If Smart can’t visit recruits, he may as well visit the State Capitol.
Apparently, he brought the House (and Senate) down.
Kirby Smart also brought Georgia’s National Championship trophy
Kirby Smart brought some of his own precious metal to the Gold Dome.
Georgia’s CFB National Championship Trophy traveled with Smart, University of Georgia President Jere Morehead, and J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks.
Barks and applause met the Dawgs’ convoy as it entered the chamber.
A special handler carried the football (no, not a nuclear one) closely behind.

Kirby Smart’s message to the Capitol: “I look at this as a team effort”
Georgia’s National Championship trophy sat out front of Kirby Smart’s lectern as he addressed the General Assembly.
He told those gathered that the relationship between Georgia (the state) and Georgia (the athletics entity) go hand-in-hand.
Smart isn’t a politician. But a bunch of politicians enjoyed what he had to say.
“The only way you have great football programs, is you have great leadership and great organization,” Smart said.
He gave credit to Morehead and Brooks, and also tipped his cap to the Assembly.
“Our university wouldn’t be where it is without the people in this room. Great leadership makes for great states. Opportunity to do business in this state has grown every year thanks to the people in this room. It attracts population. Populations’ good for football. The more I can recruit this state, the better off we’re always going to be. The better you make this state, the better off our football team’s going to be. So I look at this as a team effort.”
The crowd went wild.
