ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia head coach Kirby Smart updated the health of his Bulldogs team on Monday headed into Saturday’s colossal SEC East clash with Tennessee. Smart shared that the status for three key players is up in the air.

“Not sure because I have not seen them practice,” Smart said. “Kendall’s (Milton) still got the quad strain that’s bothering him. AD (Mitchell) has the ankle and we took him on the trip and allowed him some more recovery time. So I’ll find out some more with him today. And (Amarius) Mims has a slight MCL, that we hope he’s going to be able to go. But we haven’t practice, so it’s going to be hard to say.”

Mitchell suffered a high ankle sprain in Georgia’s second game of the season against Samford and missed the next three outings for the Bulldogs. He returned briefly against Auburn but has missed the two most recent games. Smart shared last week that Mitchell’s injury has been classified as a high ankle sprain. Overall, he has played just five snaps since the opener against Oregon.

Like Mitchell, Milton did not play in Georgia’s 42-20 win over Florida. Milton suffered a groin injury on his second carry of the game against Auburn. He did not dress versus Vanderbilt the next week before being in uniform against Florida after the bye. While he did dress, he did not play. Milton had 46 carries for 284 yards and four rushing touchdowns, adding four receptions for 65 yards and one more score, on the season.

Meanwhile, Mims suffered his injury on Saturday. Smart said afterwards that the initial thought on Mims was a sprained MCL. Xavier Truss, Darris Smith and Rian Davis also suffered injuries during the game. Truss’ injury was to his toe and that he could have returned. He was still on the PAT unit in his normal spot. Smith did not return after taking a hard hit on a kickoff while Davis went down late and was on the side doing high knees and moving around well shortly after coming off the field.

“He’s dealing with a head injury,” Smart said on Smith. “Hope to get him back, but we don’t know when.”

Kickoff for Saturday’s game is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS, but there are a couple of big things happening before then. First, the announcement of the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season comes on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. ET. There’s a possibility that Georgia, ranked No. 1 in the most recent AP and Coaches polls ahead of No. 3 Tennessee, could find itself behind the Vols. Then of course to get game day started, ESPN’s College GameDay and SEC Network’s SEC Nation will be on site in Athens Saturday morning.
