Kirby Smart updates practice availability on AD Mitchell, Amarius Mims, Kendall Milton
ATHENS, Ga. — Nolan Smith’s injury news is the biggest in Athens this week, but he’s not the only banged up Bulldog. After being able to see his team practice on both Monday and Tuesday, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart shared an injury update on AD Mitchell, Amarius Mims and Kendall Milton.
“AD has not been able to practice with us. He is working on the side. We are still hopeful to get him back. Amarius is working on the side. He has good flex in his knee. He was able to do some sets, move around and left and hit some things but hasn’t practiced with us. Kendall practiced with us and did some reps today.”
Mitchell suffered a high ankle sprain in Georgia’s second game of the season against Samford and missed the next three outings for the Bulldogs. He returned briefly against Auburn but has missed the two most recent games. Smart shared last week that Mitchell’s injury has been classified as a high ankle sprain. Overall, he has played just five snaps since the opener against Oregon.
Like Mitchell, Milton did not play in Georgia’s 42-20 win over Florida. Milton suffered a groin injury on his second carry of the game against Auburn. He did not dress versus Vanderbilt the next week before being in uniform against Florida after the bye. While he did dress, he did not play. Milton had 46 carries for 284 yards and four rushing touchdowns, adding four receptions for 65 yards and one more score, on the season.

Meanwhile, Mims suffered his injury on Saturday. Smart said afterwards that the initial thought on Mims was a sprained MCL. Xavier Truss, Darris Smith and Rian Davis also suffered injuries during the game. Truss’ injury was to his toe and Smart said that he could have returned. He was still on the PAT unit in his normal spot. Smith did not return after taking a hard hit on a kickoff, one that Smart described on Monday as a head injury, while Davis went down late and was on the side doing high knees and moving around well shortly after coming off the field.
Georgia has its biggest game of the season on Saturday, and the Bulldogs being healthy certainly would go a long way towards helping them win. Tennessee – who earned the No. 1 spot in the initial College Football Playoff Rankings announced on Tuesday night – comes to town for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff time on CBS. Tuesday’s announcement pits the top-ranked Volunteers against the No. 3 Bulldogs. Meanwhile, Georgia is No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches polls while Tennessee comes in at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively. It’s just the third top-3 matchup in Sanford Stadium history with the previous two being a 1942 game versus Georgia Tech and a 1983 contest against Auburn.
