WATCH: Junior highlights for new Georgia LB pledge Kris Jones
Georgia is back to 26 commitments in the 2023 class and all of the latest movement has been at inside linebacker. The Bulldogs gained the nation’s No. 1 linebacker on Monday but lost the nation’s No. 3 linebacker on Wednesday. Today it got a commitment from the nation’s No. 10 linebacker in Kris Jones (Fairfax; Fairfax, Va.)
At 6-foot-2 215 pounds, Jones is the nation’s No. 128 overall prospect and No. 10 linebacker per the On3 Industry-ranking, a weighted average taken from all four recruiting services. He’s the No. 2 prospect in Virginia. His junior highlights show why Georgia, even after a strong inside linebacker class last season and gaining five-star prospect Justin Williams earlier this week, coveted Jones.
Jones has taken three visits to Georgia in 2023 thus far. Two of those came in the spring, March and May, and another came in the summer. Each of those visits helped the Bulldogs make headway.
“Georgia has been pretty good to me and my family each and every time that I have been down there,” Jones said earlier this month. “They treat me and my family like they’re family. It was really good going down to Georgia. Me talking to coach (Glenn) Schumann was great. We’ve built a great relationship over these past couple of months.”
Schumann spearheaded Jones’ recruitment and the Bulldog co-defensive coordinator, play caller, and inside linebackers coach, is one of the top recruiters in the country. The young assistant coach did some great work to get Jones in the fold.

“He’s just a great guy, a great family guy and he likes to connect with his players,” Jones said of Schumann. “That’s how you get the best performance out of your players; you have to really connect with them. Being coached by the best linebacker back in the nation isn’t bad either.”
As is the case with most players, Jones wants to be developed at the next level. That’s another big reason that he chose the Bulldogs.
“They’re going to develop you as a player at Georgia,” Jones said. “The team feels like family. There’s a connection with the teammates you’ll have. They also did a great job with the stuff for my major. I want to major in Kinesiology. They had me sit down with some of the academic advisors as well.”
