Lewis Cine opens up on the experiences that have shaped him
One of Georgia’s finest representatives, safety Lewis Cine sat down with the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football on Monday to discuss his long and winding road to the NFL.
“I feel like due to the fact that I’ve traveled and moved a whole lot, I got the chance to meet different people and experience different cultures and get a vibe for everywhere from north to the south to the Caribbean,” Cine said. “I’m real diverse in that way.”
Those travels began long ago, however, an experience that Cine has commemorated with the number on his chest.
“My mom had me at the age of 16, and my mom is considered my best friend. That’s a dedication to her, really,” Cine said. “Unfortunately, I repeated the same thing. I had my daughter at sixteen, also. 16 is kind of between me and her. We’re going to stop the trend there. That’s what the sixteen means. Being a young dad made me grow up fast, and it gave me tunnel vision. A lot of the things my friends were doing, I couldn’t do. I had to grow up, and I had to find for her. I had to work and be really focused about the things I’m doing.”
Key mentors also assisted along the way, such as his one-time high school coach Deion Sanders.
“For the most part, Deion, I learned a whole lot from him. He’s old school, but he’s got a whole lot of knowledge when it comes to football, life, expenses, and how you carry yourself. I became a sponge and soaked up in everything him. He was a blessing in my life. In terms of the other guys, I’ve been learning the little bits and pieces from their game, such as Aqib Talib being the type of player he is or [Darius] Slay, he’s a baller, also. All those guys, I’ve picked up little bits and pieces from them. The goal is gradually to build a relationship with them, but right now, that’s where it is.”

Lewis Cine dishes on the Georgia/Alabama game
Lewis Cine’s experience, certainly, has been shaped by his time in Athens, and he was quick to identify the National Championship as the game he circled as a career definer to NFL personnel.
“The significance of that game was huge. It was Georgia and Alabama. It’s good on good, and they have a history of breaking our hearts,” Cine said.
He was happy to do his part in changing that narrative.
“Finally, we snapped it. That was significant to me, because I played a whole lot of different spots that game,” Cine said. “My job was big, and I came through when I needed to. We came up with the W.”
