Live Blog: Georgia and Auburn tangle on the diamond

Athens, Ga – It’s a big baseball weekend in Athens. Big crowds are expected at Foley Field for No. 3 Georgia’s series against No. 11 Auburn. Foley Field is sold out for the three-game set this weekend.
The Bulldogs and Tigers matched up on Friday night. Georgia took game one 4-1. Saturday will be a doubleheader. Rain is expected on Sunday.

There will be a mixture of social media coverage and in-game thoughts, updates and inside looks at Foley Field throughout the weekend for this big SEC series.
Saturday Doubleheader Game Two
3:15 p.m. Fans are starting to trickle back in. Auburn has already changed uniforms. They will be in orange this time around.

3:52 p.m. Golden Spikes winner Charlie Condon is throwing out the first pitch for game two at Foley Field today. It was a strike.
4:02 p.m. Finley delivers the first pitch and we’re underway.
4:04 p.m. Jackson gets spun around in right field but still makes the catch for out one.
4:05 p.m. Irish hits a wall-scraping home run to put Auburn on the board first. That is his second of the series so far.
4:11 p.m. Finley gets out of the first with a strike out. He did hit a batter but no harm, no foul other than the home run. Auburn leads 1-0.
4:16 p.m. Obee gets things going with a walk for Georgia. Burnett singles soon after. Zaborowski strikes out.
4:27 p.m. Alford walks, bases are loaded. Georgia has one out.
4:31 p.m. Adams stays patient and draws a walk that drives in a run. The game is now tied 1-1. Auburn is going to the bullpen in the first inning. Carson Myers coming in to pitch.
4:37 p.m. McCarthy hits a ball deep into left field, Terrell makes a great catch. but Georgia gets a run on the sac fly. Georgia leads after one 2-1.
Georgia 2-1, heading to the second.
Second inning
4:42 p.m. Fralick homers to right field. Auburn ties the game once again.
4:49 p.m. Finley gives up a hit but holds things there for the second. The game is still tied 2-2. Georgia is coming up with Hunter leading off.
4:56 p.m. Georgia goes down in order.
2-2 heading to the third inning.
Third inning
5:05 p.m. Finley rolls through the top of the third inning.
5:13 p.m. Georgia puts up back-to-back singles. There are two outs, however.
5:14 p.m. McCarthy strikes out.
2-2 heading to the fourth inning.
Fourth inning
5:19 p.m. Finley will be done for the day after a single. Matthew Hoskins is coming in to pitch.
5:24 p.m. Terrell singles, but a good play by Burnett makes it close at first. Obee snags a ball on the run in centerfield for out number one.
5:25 p.m. Hoskins is touching 98 on a few pitches here in the fourth.
5:28 p.m. A sacrifice fly by Carter drives home a run for Auburn. Auburn now leads 3-2.
5:31 p.m. Hoskins reaches back and finds 99 miles per hour to get out of the jam.
5:39 p.m. Georgia goes down in order on offense.
Auburn 3-2, heading to the fifth inning.
Fifth inning
5:42 p.m. Hoskins is getting a second inning of work.
5:47 p.m. Hoskins works a pretty clean frame, collects a strikeout. Auburn leads 3-2.
5:58 p.m. Georgia does down in order again. The strikeouts are piling up.
Auburn 3-2, heading to the sixth.
Sixth inning
5:59 p.m. Hoskins set to work another inning for Georgia.
6:01 p.m. Terrell doubles to set up another Auburn threat in the sixth.
6:04 p.m. Hoskins makes quick work of the Auburn sixth inning. Heading to the bottom of the sixth. Auburn leads Georgia 3-2.
6:04 p.m. Auburn is making a pitching change. Myers has been dominant. Wats is coming in.
6:09 p.m. Myers is out and immediately, Alford finds a hole to drop a blooper in. He hustles to second base.
6:09 p.m. McCarthy’s infield single moves Alford to third.
6:11 p.m. Jackson gets hit. Now, the bases are loaded.
6:14 p.m. Hunter hits a screamer down the first base line that the first baseman stops and steps on the bag for an out. Georgia gets the tying run across, though. 3-3.
6:16 p.m. McCarthy hits a routine ground ball to short and the shortstop falls down. A run scores. Georgia now leads 4-3.
Georgia 4-3, heading to the seventh inning.
Seventh inning
6:23 p.m. Jordan Stephens in to pitch. Quickly gets two outs. But just walked a batter.
6:28 p.m. Stephens is through the seventh inning.
6:29 p.m. Auburn is making another pitching change. Hetzler is in.
6:31 p.m. Black gets a single but then gets caught in a double play. A ground out from Alford ends the seventh.
Georgia 4-3, heading to the eighth inning.
Eighth inning
6:37 p.m. Alton Davis is in to pitch for Georgia.
6:42 p.m. Davis gets two outs. Johnson is going to get him to bring in Eric Hammond.
6:46 p.m. One pitch, one out for Hammond.
6:55 p.m. Georgia gets one man on but go quietly in the eighth.
Georgia 4-3, heading to the ninth inning.
Ninth inning
6:55 p.m. Hammond in to try and close game two out.
6:59 p.m. Carter doubles down the third base line to open the ninth. Johnson is coming to get Hammond. Zeldin is coming in to pitch.
7:05 p.m. Irish grounds out but the runner at second had moved over to third on a passed ball. He comes in to score on Irish’s ground ball to tie the game. 3-3 in the top of the ninth.
7:07 p.m. Zeldin walks Steele.
7:10 p.m. Belyeu in to pinch run for Steele. He steals second base and now he’s shaken up. Appears to be shoulder-related.
7:13 p.m. Belyeu stays in. Zeldin gets the second out with a strikeout.
7:15 p.m. Zeldin closes the door but now Georgia needs something in the ninth to win. The game now tied 3-3 heading to the bottom half.
7:17 p.m. Kolby Branch up to lead off. He strikes out.
7:22 p.m. Not much happening for Georgia in the bottom half. We’re going to extra innings.
4-4, heading to 10th inning
10th inning
7:25 p.m. DJ Radtke is in to pitch for Georgia
7:29 p.m. Hunter drops strike three. Rembert singles on the next pitch. Now there’s a time out.
7:32 p.m. Terrell hits a long two-run home run to give Auburn the 6-4 lead.
7:34 p.m. Radtke gets a flyout. Heading to the bottom half, Georgia has work to do. Three outs away from a split.
7:40 p.m. Alford singles, Zaborowski to third. No outs.
7:43 p.m. Adams walks to load the bases. There are still no outs.
7:44 p.m. Auburn is going to the bullpen again. Johnston is coming in to try and get out of this massive mess.
7:47 p.m. McCarthy is the first up with bases loaded.
7:48 p.m. McCarthy hits the ball approximately five feet in front of home plate, Johnston throws home and throws it over the catcher. Georgia gets two runs to tie the game. 6-6.
7:49 p.m. Jackson goes deep to win the game. Georgia wins 9-6.
Saturday Doubleheader Game One
10:35 a.m. Two games taking place at Foley Field today. The first game is about 25 minutes away. Georgia bested Auburn last night 4-1. The Bulldogs got a great performance from Kolten Smith out of the pen.

10: 45 a.m. Passed a group tailgaiting at 10 am on the way into the stadium. There is a lot of energy around this team right now. The Bulldogs are knocking on the door of that No. 1 ranking.
11:02 a.m. Curley delivers the first pitch. The electric first at bat turns into a walk after two really close calls.
11:06 a.m. Curley gets strikeout number one, on a swing this time.
11:08 a.m. Out two is great play at first by Adams, who makes a diving stab. Next pitch, Curley induces a ground ball to second that is handled for out three. Nice quick inning for Curley.
11:17 p.m. Fisher makes quick work of Georgia’s offense. A walk by Obee was followed by a double play and a strike out of Zabowoski ends the inning.
0-0 heading to the second.
Second inning
11:23 a.m. Curley is dealing. Picks up strike out number two and then gets a double play. Through two innings in 23 pitches.
11:24 a.m. Auburn’s McMurray is slowly walking off after play at second. He stopped, slumped over a bit talked to trainers and then walked off. He’s already been replaced at first base by Bud Terrell.
11:29 a.m. Adams is grazed by a pitch and gives Georgia their second base runner of the day. Nothing comes of it as Fisher gets a few pop-outs.
0-0 heading to the top of the third.
Third inning
11:36 a.m. Curley is cruising along. He already has one out in the top of the third.
11:38 a.m. Bristol Carter turns around an 85 MPH breaking ball for a home run. Auburn leads 1-0.
11:39 a.m. Belyeu appears to foul a pitch off his foot but the ball trickled to Curley, who then tossed to first for out two. Belyeu stood at the plate for a few moments. Auburn is out to talk about it, but not going to change the call at this point.
11:41 a.m. Curley gets a fly out. Heading to the bottom half, Auburn leading 1-0.
11:44 a.m. Cooper McMurray is back in the game at first base for Auburn.. He was being checked for a concussion so he can return.
11:45 a.m. Hunter walks. Back-to-back strikeouts have Georgia up against the wall in this inning now.
11:51 a.m. Burnett walks. The meat of Georgia’s lineup is coming. Auburn sends out the pitching coach.
11:53 a.m. Zaborowski grounds out to end Georgia’s threat in the third.
1-0, Auburn, heading to fourth.
Fourth inning
12:00 p.m. Curley gets two quick outs, but McMurray gets a single to extend the fourth for Auburn.
12:04 p.m. Curley gets through the fourth, striking out the fourth man he faces.
12:06 p.m. Georgia hasn’t gotten a hit through the first three innings.
12:07 p.m. Alford has Georgia’s first hit. Adams walks for the second time today.
12:11 a.m. McCarthy executes the sac bunt down the third base line. That’s a man hitting .327 being unselfish. Daniel Jackson is up. Has been one of the hottest hitters in this lineup.
12:14 p.m. Fisher hits Jackson to load the bases. Hunter up next. Time to strike for Georgia.
12:16 p.m. Henry pops out, Alford tags and gets thrown out at home. Georgia comes away with nothing after having bases loaded with one out.
Auburn 1-0, heading to the fifth.
Fifth inning
12:17 p.m. Curley is still in. He’s thrown 60 pitches to this point.
12:25 p.m. Curley has been fairly smooth this inning. He has walked a batter who is now at second after a stolen base.
12:26 p.m. Curley gets out of the inning with a strike out.
12:30 p.m. Branch hammers a single up the middle. Georgia is getting more opportunities to strike.
12:38 p.m. Zaborowski walks to load the bases. Alford grounds out to third to drive in Georgia’s first run of the day. The game is tied 1-1. Georgia threatens with two men on still. There are two outs.
12:42 p.m. Georgia takes advantage, Adams drives in Zaborowski on a single to center. Georgia leads 2-1.
12:44 p.m. No bunt from McCarthy this time; he swipes it the other way for a single. Another run is in. Georgia leads 3-1.
12:44 p.m. Jackson gets hit again. The bases are loaded again.
12:46 p.m. Hunter drives one opposite field that carries into the corner and gets by the outfielder. Two more runs are in. Georgia leads 5-1. A pitching change for Auburn is coming.
12:50 p.m. A pitch gets away from Auburn’s catcher, Jackson, who as at third base, scampers home for the Bulldogs’ sixth run in this inning. Georgia now leads 6-1.
Georgia 6-1, heading to the sixth inning.
Sixth inning
12:51 p.m. Curley remains in for Georgia.
12:57 p.m. Curley walks a batter and allows an Ike Irish double to open the sixth inning. Johnson has already visited the mound.
1:01 p.m. Curely loses Steele as he smacks a single up the middle. Two runs are in. Johnson out of the dugout; he has the hook with him. Georgia leads 6-3 still.
1:02 p.m. Tyler McLoughlin is in. Has a 1.46 ERA.
1:06 p.m. McLoughlin begins his stint with a walk.
1:08 p.m. Fralick ties the game with a three-run home the opposite way for Auburn. 6-6.
1:17 p.m. Zaborowski gets his first hit of this series.
1:18 p.m. Alford singles.
1:19 p.m Adams goes opposite field for a three-run home run. Georgia now leads 9-6.
1:23 p.m. Back to back singles by McCarthy and Jackson have Georgia threatening once again.
1:29 p.m. Auburn’s throws the ball into center field and McCarthy scores. Georgia leads 10-6.
Georgia 10-6, heading to the seventh.
Seventh inning
1:39 p.m. Irish hits a long home run off JT Quinn. Auburn still trails 10-7 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

1:50 p.m. Georiga gets two on but nothing comes of it. We’re heading to the eighth.
Georgia 10-7, heading to the eighth inning.
Eighth inning
1:51 p.m. Quinn is still on the mound for Georgia. Quinn gets McMurray on strikes for out one.
1:53 p.m. Loud ground out turns into a base runner for Auburn after Burnett’s error. Fabian, now at first for Auburn.
1:54 p.m. Double play turns into a quick inning for Quinn. We’re heading to the bottom of the eighth. Georgia leads 10-7.
1:58 p.m. McCarthy hits the first pitch he sees in the eighth into the parking lot in left field. Georgia now leads 11-7.
Georgia 11-7, heading to the top of the ninth.
Ninth inning
2:03 p.m. Georgia is going to ride with Quinn to try and close this thing out.
2:05 p.m. Klepsch grounds out for out one.
2:06 p.m. Carter singles. We’re going back to the top of the Auburn lineup.
2:08 p.m. Belyeu strikes out for out two. Quinn is one out away from earning the save.
2:10 p.m. Quinn gets a strikeout to close the game out. Georgia wins 11-7. Georgia clinches the series win.

5:00 p.m. Students are already lining the street outside of Foley Field and waiting to enter.
5:10 p.m. Tre Phelps and Ryan Black are both out for Georgia. I was not aware of an injury for Phelps, but he will not be available tonight.

5:29 p.m. The student section is already nearly full. The outfield seats are beginning to fill in. The first pitch is expected at 6:02 p.m.
5:31 p.m. Will get an update on Tre Phelps’ long-term prognosis post game. It does appear there is some sort of injury but won’t speculate beyond that. He played on Tuesday night. Phelps went 1-for-3 and scored two runs for Georgia in their win over West Georgia.
5:35 p.m. Georgia is going with the black tops today. Georgia’s first ‘blackout game’ in football game was against Auburn back in 2008. That could be a bit of an homage.
5:47 p.m. The new right field seating area looks full about 15 minutes from first pitch. Good crowd gathering on the house on the hill.
5:51 p.m. Before things get going, wanted to flash back and give some insight into Georgia’s pitching staff’s approach to this Auburn offense. Leighton Finley will go in game three for Georgia but he’s already thinking about the plan. Auburn is 28th in the nation in batting average.
5:54 p.m. Coaches are exchanging line up cards.
5:56 p.m. Teams lining up for national anthem.
6:00 p.m. Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart just left the football facility and headed into Foley Field as well. So, Georgia’s head football man is in the house tonight as well.
First inning
6:02 p.m. Goldstein delivers the first pitch on time for a ball.
6:03 p.m. Goldstein hits Snow to lead off the game.
6:05 p.m. Goldstein gets first out. Ike Irish flies out. Goldstein had started with four of first five pitches being balls.
6:08 p.m. Rivals’ Anthony Dasher is reporting that Phelps suffered a hamstring in practice on Thursday. He will have an MRI on Monday. We will get more word on this this evening.
6:11 p.m. Good battle there between Goldstein and McMurray. Goldstein gets the strikeout, though Snow steals second. There are now two outs.
6:12 p.m. Runner advances to third on wild pitch from Goldstein. Then he walks Steele.
6:13 p.m. Goldstein already at 21 pitches. A lot of deep counts early in this ball game.
6:17 p.m. Goldstein walks Belyeu. Bases are loaded in the top of the first with two outs.
6:18 p.m. Goldstein gets out of the jam by working a ground ball to second on Rembert. Heading to bottom of first 0-0. Alford leading off for Georgia.
6:22 p.m. Alford gets off a good swing but grounds to the short stop for Georgia’s first out of the night.
6:23 p.m. Burnett quickly down on strikes.
6:25 p.m. Dutton being careful his first time facing Zaborowski. Threw two straight balls and a close strike in first three pitches.
6:27 p.m. Count full with Zaborowski. He’s not peppering foul balls all over Foley Field. He eventually walks. That will be Georgia’s first base runner of the night. Adams coming up.
6:30 p.m. Adams goes down on strikes with a hefty cut. Top of second 0-0.
6:30 p.m. The highlight of that first inning for Georgia was Zaborowski’s walk. Fought through about nine pitches. He’s been a major power bat but there’s more to him that just hitting the ball a long way.
Second inning, Georgia strikes first
6:37 p.m. Goldstein gets two quick outs but hits a batter.
6:37 p.m. Snow singles just past the glove of Branch.
6:38 p.m. Irish hits Goldstein’s pitch the other way but right at McCarthy who fights off the sun to make the catch for out three. 0-0, bottom of the second.
6:41 p.m. McCarthy gives Georgia first hit of the game with a hard hit ball that is stopped by the Auburn shortstop though he can’t get up and make the throw.
6:45 p.m. Obee with a long home run to dead center field puts Georgia on the board. McCarthy scores. Georgia now leads 2-0. More opportunity ahead with only one out.
6:47 p.m. Heading to the third inning. Georgia, 2-0.

6:50 p.m. Goldstein comes out carving up the strike zone to open the inning. Gets a quick strikeout.
6:50 p.m. McMurray doubles on the first pitch.
6:54 p.m. Goldstein walks Belyeu for the second time tonight.
6:56 p.m. Goldstein walks Rembert. He’s now reached 63 pitches. Hunter going out to talk to him.
6:58 p.m. Fralick quickly dealt with. Goldstein strikes him out. There are now two outs.
6:59 p.m. Golstein out of the inning with a pop out.
7:01 p.m. We begin the second time around for Georgia’s line up. Alford to lead off.
7:03 p.m. Alford down on strikes.
7:07 p.m. Zaborowski walks. Auburn head coach is out to meet with Dutton.
7:09 p.m. A double play ends Georgia’s threat in the bottom of the third. Georgia, 2-0.
Fourth inning
7:10 p.m. Goldstein done for the day. Kolten Smith in to pitch for Georgia.
7:11 p.m. Final line for Goldstein. Three innings, three hits, four walks, four strikeouts in 68 pitches and left with a 2-0 lead.
7:11 p.m. Smith gets a quick ground out.
7:15 p.m. Irish hit by a Smith pitch. He’s being looked at by the trainer after being hit in the leg.
7:19 p.m. Smith gets out of the inning fairly unscathed.
7:22 p.m. McCarthy is on base again. This time he was hit by a pitch.
7:29 p.m. Dan Jackson hits a monster home run to center field to extend Georgia’s lead. The Bulldogs now lead 4-0. That ball landed in a similar location to where Obee’s earlier home run did.
7:33 p.m. Branch nails Dutton with a line drive. He’s walking gingerly off the field as Auburn was still able to turn it into an out.
Heading to top of the fifth. Georgia, 4-0.

7:38 p.m. Smith gets two quick outs to start the fifth inning.
7:38 p.m. Smith coerces a ground ball for the third out. The organist plays, ‘ABC’ by the Jackson Five as Georgia jogs off the field.
7:42 p.m. Alford singles to get things going in the bottom of the fifth. That was Georgia’s fourth hit. Two other hits have been home runs.
7:44 p.m. Auburn is taking Dutton down for the night. He’s thrown 79 pitches.
7:48 p.m. Cam Tilly gets the call out of the Auburn pen. He gets Adams on a loud fly ball.
Heading to the sixth, Georgia, 4-0.
Sixth inning
7:52 p.m. Smith in for a third inning. He quickly gets out one.
7:54 p.m. Smith gets the strikeout.
7:56 p.m. Smith gets another strikeout to carry Georgia through sixth inning.
8:05 p.m. Georgia threatens, but Auburn extinguishes the fire.

8:12 p.m. Smith staying in to pitch. Gets a lazy fly ball for out one.
8:13 p.m. Adams makes a stab and gets Irish at first base.
8:15 p.m. Smith blows a pitch by McMurray for the third out. Another inning in the bank for Johnson and crew.
8:19 p.m. Alford singles to start the bottom of the seventh. Good opportunity to add on late. Alford takes second a strikeout by Burnett.
Heading to the eighth, Georgia, 4-0.
Eighth inning
8:31 p.m. Smith back out to pitch the eighth. He’s at 47 pitches.
8:32 p.m. Smith continues to roll. Gets a ground out.
8:35 p.m. Smith gets his seventh strike out. Follows it up with his eighth strikeout.
8:42 p.m. Tonight was a sellout at Foley Field. Well over 3,000 fans in attendance.
Heading to the top of the ninth, Georgia 4-0.
Ninth inning
8:49 p.m. Brian Zeldin is coming in to try and finish things off.
8:53 p.m. Zeldin walks Terrell to open the inning. It was a six-pitch at bat.
8:56 p.m. Johnson is taking Zeldin out after back-to-back walks. DJ Radtke is coming in.
8:59 p.m. Radtke immediately strikes out Snow. One out for Georgia.
9:01 p.m. Irish doubles to bring in Auburn’s first run. Things are getting tight now. The Tigers have runners on third and second. Tying run is at the plate. One out.
9:06 p.m. Radtke strikes out another. Two down. Georgia leads 4-1.
9:07 p.m. Radtke closes it down with a ground ball. Georgia wins 4-1. Bulldogs move to 26-2. 6-1 in SEC play.
