Longwood transfer Justin Hill commits to Georgia, becomes first addition of Mike White era
Georgia Basketball landed its first player of the Mike White era on Friday as Longwood transfer Justin Hill committed to the Bulldogs. Hill will be a junior next season with three years of eligibility remaining due to the 2020-21 season not counting against him due to COVID-19.
Speaking of that 2020-21 season, Hill was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team with one of the best freshman seasons in Longwood program history. Hill ranked among the program’s top two of the Division I era in both points (11.0) and assists (4.2) per game. He was named Big South Freshman of the Week three times and finished No. 2 among the conference’s first-year players in scoring and assists while No. 3 in rebounding.
Hill followed that with an even better sophomore season as Longwood reached the NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-0, 185 pound Houston, Texas native started 30 of 31 games for the Lancers, averaging 14.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. According to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers, Georgia offered Hill on Wednesday, also receiving interest from Arkansas, BYU, Cal, Colorado State, Kansas State, NC State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh, UNLV, Utah, Vanderbilt, VCU, Washington State, Western Kentucky, West Virginia and Wichita State. he scored a season-high 29 points against Winthrop on January 29th, posted a season-high 10 rebounds against High Point on February 17th and had a season-high number of assists (9) against NC Upstate on March 5th.
Hill joins a Georgia team that went 6-26 last season and will be led by first-year head coach Mike White. White comes to Georgia from Florida where he led the Gators to the NCAA Tournament four times in his seven seasons including four-straight from 2017 to 2021, winning at least one game in each appearance.
