LOOK: Georgia visits fast-rising film standout Vincent Carroll-Jackson
Georgia defensive line coach Tray Scott took a visit on Wednesday to see fast-rising senior lineman Vincent Carroll-Jackson out of Central Dauphin East. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Harrisburg, Penn. native plays on both sides of the ball for his high school and received an offer from Georgia just last week. In fact, he’s in his first year playing football.
Prior to the Georgia offer, schools like Buffalo and Rutgers were the ones standing out. However, an offer from the current No. 1 team in the nation couldn’t help but grab his attention. DawgsHQ’s Jake Reuse spoke to Carroll-Jackson after the offer.
“It definitely was (exciting to hear from Georgia). Honestly, I think it’s because I’m a hidden gem, you know what I’m saying? It all came out of nowhere, and it came full force,” he told DawgsHQ. “(These staffs) have seen this big dude coming in there and causing havoc, and it’s like ‘Where did he come from? Where’s he been?’ This experience for me has been truly amazing. It’s been beyond comparison. I never expected or thought something like this could happen to me. I’ve been taking it a step at a time and going through everything.”

“The conversation was about us building a relationship and building that connection and things like that,” Carroll-Jackson said about his phone call with Scott. “He asked me some things and told me we had similar background stories. He said he loved my film and kept watching it over and over. He said he’d been wanting to offer, but he didn’t want to jump into things immediately without building the connection. He wanted us to get on the same page and start talking more. He was just very excited for me to have an offer from Georgia, and he wants to see me up there and see me play and go through everything and build a genuine bond.”
As things currently stand, Georgia has just two defensive linemen committed in the Class of 2023 and one of those could end up being more of an EDGE than a true between the tackles defensive lineman. There’s no doubt that Jamaal Jarrett of Grimsley (Greensboro, N.C.) fits the mold that Scott is looking for at 6-foot-5, 365 pounds. He’s the No. 193 player and No. 22 defensive lineman according to the On3 Consensus. Meanwhile, Gabriel Harris is 6-foot-4, 245 pounds and played more of an outside linebacker role this season at IMG Academy. A native of Valdosta, Ga., the On3 Consensus has Harris as the No. 92 player in the country and No. 10 defensive lineman. The Dawgs are also in play for Jacksonville’s Jordan Hall, the No. 7 defensive lineman, and visited Montgomery’s James Smith this week although he and his teammate Qua Russaw are both projected to Alabama by the On3 RPM.
