LOOK: Mike Bobo makes trip to see Georgia QB commit Ryan Puglisi
Georgia quarterback commit Ryan Puglisi was down to see the Dawgs in action this past Saturday. On Tuesday, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, fresh off his appearance at the Broyles Award ceremony in Arkansas, returned the favor and made the trip up to see Puglisi for an in-home visit in Avon, Connecticut.
Ranked the No. 9 quarterback in the country according to both the On300 and the On3 Industry Ranking, the 6-foot-2.5, 200-pound product of Avon Old Farms has been committed to the Dawgs since last October. He chose Georgia early in the process after coming onto the scene over that summer, earning an offer from Alabama on the camp circuit as well.
Live-armed signal caller who throws with some of the best velocity in the 2024 cycle. Measured at around 6-foot-2.5, 200 pounds with a 9.25-inch hand prior to his senior season. Has a thick, powerful base which he uses to generate power. Can drive the football to multiple levels with ease. Shows the ability to step up in the pocket and rip throws to the far boundary. Capable of layering touch passes in the red zone. A solid functional mover with reactive movements. Has a baseball background with a fastball that reportedly exceeds 90 miles per hour. Can improve his overall consistency in game settings and reaction to pressure. Plays a brief eight game season against varying levels of competition at a boarding school in Connecticut. Will enter college with fewer live game reps and passing attempts than many of his blue-chip peers. Registers as an average athlete in the combine setting. – Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting
Puglisi, prior to his senior season, was one of the top performers at the Elite 11 Finals, finishing No. 6 among the quarterbacks in attendance according to On3. A quarterback from the Northeast who doesn’t play the same level of competition in-season as some others, Puglisi certainly showed he belonged.
Puglisi is one of two quarterback commits for Georgia in its top-ranked Class of 2024. Five-star Dylan Raiola, a top-20 prospect and the No. 3 quarterback in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking, is also committed giving Georgia just the sixth tandem of top-200 overall quarterbacks (LSU 2013 – Hayden Retting/Anthony Jennings, Florida 2014 – Will Grier/Treon Harris, USC 2015 – Ricky Town/Sam Darnold, South Carolina 2016 – Jake Bentley/Brandon McIlwan, Ohio State 2021 – Quinn Ewers/Kyle McCord).
During his trip to Atlanta, Puglisi stopped in pregame to chat with Steak Shapiro and the folks at 92.9 The Game. Below are select comments the quarterback had to share.
Puglisi on his recruitment process: “The Northeast schools got on me when I was pretty young. I think I was going into my freshman year when I first started talking to Boston College and all the Northeast schools. Super grateful for those guys, I built a great relationship with all of them. When I continued to play in the prep school league and kept developing, I decided to go down South my sophomore summer going into my junior year. I first came to Alabama, I think that was June 15th, camped there and got offered by them. The next day, I drove to Athens and camped for Coach Bobo, Coach Monken was still there at the time and Coach Smart as well and got offered. It really started with the camps … I think the best way to look at it is just be grateful for every opportunity you have. All these schools recruiting you and telling you what you want has been nothing but a blessing to me. I think you’ve got to take it day by day, let it play out and that’s exactly what I did. I was grateful for every opportunity, every school, every coach who decided to take the time to talk to me.”

Puglisi on Georgia taking two QBs: “It caught a lot of people by surprise when Georgia took two quarterbacks, but for me and my family, it wasn’t a surprise. We knew since day one, the day I got that offer Coach Smart told me they were most likely going to take two quarterbacks in this class. It (up front communication) made it a game changer. He told me straight up, and that was the difference for me … I think, when you look at everyone who competes they just get that much better. I think when you learn and love to compete, when you play multiple sports your whole entire life, all you’ve ever done is compete and that’s what you love. Going down to Georgia is the best situation I could be put in right now, no matter who’s there. If you look at Alabama a few years ago, they had Jalen Hurts, Tua (Tagovailoa), Mac Jones, they were all there and now they’re all in the NFL.”
Puglisi on Mike Bobo: “You see Carson Beck who has been here for a few years now, this is the first year he played for him and see how well he’s doing under his offense and how calm he looks out there. I think when you see that, the way Carson is mentally and how calm he seems back there, it brings your eye in as a quarterback to want to play in that.”
Puglisi on his background in sports, advice to aspiring recruits: “I played sports all my life. I was always a basketball player, a football player, a baseball player. When I didn’t specialize, it was tough to see that up until seventh or eighth grade when I started to take football more seriously than other sports. I think right then and there, that was when you could start to see it … My coach back home, Coach Wholley, he loves multiple sport athletes because the people that play multiple sports are in situations where they have to compete 24/7. They might as well, whether they’re playing football where they’re the star player on the team or playing baseball where they might not be the guy, they have to learn to be a part of that team where they might not be the guy.”
Puglisi said his favorite NFL quarterback to watch is Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen and noted that the Georgia staff made the comparison between the two in their style of play. Puglisi will sign early with Georgia on December 20th but is expected to arrive to begin bowl practices with the Bulldogs even before that.
