Mike Bobo is back, baby! Love it or hate it, the Dawgs have their former play-caller back in the catbird seat.

And let me tell you, there is one play in particular that Georgia fans are eager to see from their new old offensive coordinator.

Remember 44 flatback rooski (rooksie maybe? I wasn’t in the huddle, but I know it was one of those two names. Just being transparent).

Well, you may not know the name. Apparently I don’t, either.

But if you’ve been around the Dawgs long enough, you definitely remember the play.

The first time it happened successfully at Georgia was in 2002

David Greene. Terrence Edwards. Sixty-five yards to the endzone for a beautifully-executed sleight-of-hand delivery.

Vanderbilt thought Musa Smith had the ball.

So did the Jefferson-Pilot camera operator.

Georgia won the game, 48-17. The Dawgs went 13-1 that season and won a drought-busting SEC Championship over Arkansas.

Had the College Football Playoff existed, this team would’ve made it easily.

Bobo wasn’t the offensive coordinator that season, however. Just the quarterbacks coach. Mark Richt used the play when he was Florida State‘s offensive coordinator, so he deserves a lot of the credit here.

But Bobo did call the shots in 2012, when Aaron Murray ran it

Ten years later, the Dawgs faced a 10-0 deficit against Ole Miss.

This instance of 44 flatback isn’t as notable, in my opinion, because it didn’t fake out the camera operator or Verne Lundquist.

But it did fake out Ole Miss‘s defense.

Murray hit Marlon Brown for the easiest touchdown connection of their Georgia careers.

Mike Bobo ran it again that time, and again, it worked.

If Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton aren’t practicing this play-action form this spring, I’ll be shocked.

We won’t know until the 2023 season, at the earliest, if Bobo brings it back to life in the Kirby Smart era.

But just by putting these plays on my twitter timeline, it’s clear to me: Georgia fans really hope it happens.
