Georgia signee Monroe Freeling was announced on Tuesday as the No. 7 overall player in the country according to the final On300 rankings of the 2023 cycle, the top overall offensive lineman. Coming in at 6-foot-7, 290 pounds, the Oceanside Collegiate Academy star rises from No. 27 overall and No. 4 at his position in the previous version of the On300.

Freeling announced his commitment to Georgia on August 29th, choosing the Bulldogs over the likes of Notre Dame, Miami and Florida. In-state Clemson and South Carolina were also considered contenders for his commitment, but ultimately it was Stacey Searels and Georgia that won Freeling over.

A standout at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, On3’s Sam Spiegelman named him the top pass protector.

“Monroe Freeling certainly looked the part at offensive tackle at 6-foot-7 and 295 pounds, light on his feet with outstanding flexibility and noticeable physical strength,” Spiegelman wrote. “The Georgia signee out of South Carolina passed the test in 1-on-1s and has the right combination of length, frame, bend and power to project to left tackle in the SEC and beyond. Freeling had a strong showing in San Antonio and has continued to take necessary steps in his positional development over the years at a premium position.”

On3 is highest on Freeling of anybody in the recruiting industry. On average, his On300 ranking is 78 spots higher, although other outlets have not released their final rankings.

High School Scouting Summary

Physically-gifted offensive tackle prospect who pairs an elite frame with high-end athleticism. Has grown to around 6-foot-7, 285 pounds prior to his senior season. Has plus length to go with the stature, checking in with a 7-foot wing-span. Also a top athlete at the position. A fluid, flexible mover on the field. Moves as well as any top offensive lineman in the cycle. Tests very well in the combine setting and is a dunker on the hardwood. At his best as a second level run blocker at this stage. Still developing from a technical standpoint. Needs to improve his pass set technique and functional play strength. Physical traits and continued growth potential point to a high ceiling. – Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting

Reminds Us Of: Nate Solder (Like Nate Solder, Monroe Freeling is a tall, big-framed and flexible athlete who has considerable physical upside at offensive tackle.)

Freeling is already on campus and will participate in spring drills with the Bulldogs. That could be especially important considering Georgia lost both of its starting offensive tackles from this past season. While we wouldn’t expect Freeling to step in as a starter right away as a freshman, getting in and getting his feet wet could be big for his development down the road.
