Spring practice has produced another injury to projected Georgia starter. DawgsHQ has confirmed that sophomore defensive end Mykel Williams will miss the remaining eight practices of spring with a foot injury. Jed May of UGASports.com was the first to report.

Williams has undergone surgery to repair the injury. Sources tell DawgsHQ that a full recovery is expected and that the injury is relatively minor.

The former five-star prospect was a force for Georgia down the stretch last season. With a sack in each of Georgia’s College Football Playoff games, Williams led the team in that category with four on the year. His sack against Ohio State came against projected first-round pick Paris Johnson.

Williams started the first two games of the 2022 season but came off the bench as an integral part of the rotation for the final three games. He played defensive end on first and second down and moved inside quite a bit in passing situations.

Williams as a prospect…

The 6-foot-5 261-pound defender was the crowned jewel of Georgia’s 2022 recruiting class. When the dust settled on that cycle, Williams was ranked as the nation’s No. 6 overall prospect and No. 2 defensive lineman per the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the No. 2 player in Georgia.

USC got him on its commitment list early in the cycle but uncertainty surrounding the Trojans’ program caused him to reopen his recruitment. Georgia was the leader prior to USC swooping in and the Bulldogs regained that spot when he de-committed.

Injuries hampering Georgia this spring…

Williams is the second projected starter to go down for UGA this spring. The Bulldogs have already lost senior running back Kendall Milton for spring with a hamstring injury.

They have been without sophomore EDGE Marvin Jones Jr. since the start of spring drills. He had shoulder surgery in January. Sophomore linebacker Jalon Walker is also out for spring with a shoulder surgery.
