Georgia DE Mykel Williams out for UAB game
ATHENS, Ga. — Kirby Smart said earlier this week that Georgia is currently dealing with it’s longest injury report since he became the head coach. Add another one to it as the Bulldogs will be without sophomore defensive end Mykel Williams when they take on UAB. Williams is not dressed out and isn’t with the defensive lineman for pre-game warm up as UGA gets set to take on the Blazers.
According to persons with knowledge of the situation, Williams is not thought to be dealing with anything major.
The Columbus, Ga. native is Georgia’s sack leader in 2023, tallying two in the Bulldogs first three games. He recorded UGA’s first sack of the season in the season opener vs. UT-Martin. Williams had the first sack of the season in 2022 in week two against Samford. He had another in last Saturday’s 24-14 win over South Carolina, giving him two on the year. In all, Williams also has three total tackles and two tackles for loss.

Williams signed with Georgia in the 2022 class as a five-star prospect. He was the highest-rated signee in that class and ended up leading the Bulldogs in sacks with 4.5 on the year. That includes a pair of sacks in the College Football Playoff with one coming against Ohio State in the Peach Bowl when he beat Paris Johnson, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Williams tallied another in the 65-7 win over TCU in the National Championship.
His absence leaves the Bulldogs quite shorthanded at the defensive end position. Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, listed as a co-starter on the depth chart, has missed the past two games with a foot injury that has lingered since the start of spring drills. Tramel Walthour, a sixth-year senior who started 13 of 15 games last season, is the Bulldogs’ only healthy defensive end with experience. Georgia will likely turn to true freshman Gabe Harris to play major minutes against the Blazers.
