Georgia has built its reputation for the nation’s best tight end play. Oscar Delp has no plans of leaving that anytime soon, announcing his return to UGA for his senior season on Tuesday.

Delp, a former four-star and the nation’s No. 2 player for his position in the Class of 2022, has been a contributor in some capacity since he stepped foot on campus. He played in 13 of 15 games as a freshman that fall, scoring his first career touchdown against South Carolina in the third game of the season. The Gamecocks were his team growing up, so the score meant a lot to him. Later that season, he was asked to step into a tough spot for Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals, replacing an injured Darnell Washington versus Ohio State. It was a sign of his improvement as a player and a sign of what was to come for Delp over the next two seasons.

Still not quite being the top tight end on Georgia’s roster in 2023 with Brock Bowers around Athens for another year, Delp took the next step in his career as he took on a starting role. Blocking was his biggest responsibility, but he proved more than capable as a pass catcher too, hauling in 24 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns. When Bowers was out, Delp got a taste of being the top tight end, and he took over that role well in 2024. He caught a couple of touchdown passes versus Tennessee in UGA’s top-10 win over the Volunteers. That started a streak of three straight games in which he would find the end zone, matching his career total of touchdowns before that and finishing the campaign with 21 grabs, 248 yards and four scores.

Delp, who boasts career totals of 50 catches, 593 yards and eight touchdowns, will go into 2025 not only as one of Georgia’s top tight ends in a talented room, but also one of the best players for his position in the country. Lawson Luckie also returns after a strong sophomore season (24 catches, 348 yards, 3 touchdowns) while Jaden Reddell (No. 5 TE in Class of 2024) will look to take on a bigger role in his second year in the system. Georgia also signed two impressive players at the position in the Class of 2025 with Elyiss Williams (No. 1 TE in Class of 2025) and Ethan Barbour (No. 14 TE in Class of 2025), both of whom were with the Bulldogs in advance of the Sugar Bowl.

Georgia’s group of players passing on the NFL for another year in Athens includes defensive back and SEC Championship Game MVP Daylen Everette, wide receiver Dillon Bell and defensive lineman Christen Miller.
