Past, present and future of Georgia Football on display at Maxwell Football Club awards gala
Georgia Football was well represented Friday night at the 85th annual Maxwell Football Club awards gala in Atlantic City, New Jersey with three Bulldogs there to receive recognition. Former Georgia standout Jordan Davis, Bulldog tight end Brock Bowers and early enrollee freshman Mykel Williams were all a part of the celebration of excellence in football.
Jordan Davis
Davis took home the 2021 Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s best defensive player, helping lead a stellar defensive unit. Finishing with 32 total tackles, 5.5 of which were for loss including 2.0 quarterback sacks, the Charlotte, N.C. native earned First-Team All-American honors from Associated Press, Walter Camp, AFCA, Sporting News and USA Today, among others. He became just the third player in College Football history to take home both the Bednarik Award and the Outland Trophy, given to the top interior lineman either on offense or defense. Davis declared for the 2022 NFL Draft and is widely projected as a first round selection.
Brock Bowers
Bowers was in Atlantic City to receive his Sean Alexander Freshman of the Year award after a strong first season of College Football. He also won SEC Freshman of the Year. Bowers led the Bulldogs in receptions, yards and touchdowns as he hauled in 56 passes for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns. His 13 receiving scores are also a single-season UGA record by any pass catcher. Bowers underwent offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder so he’ll be out this spring, but you can count on him being a factor this fall once healthy.

Mykel Williams
Williams was Georgia’s highest rated recruit according to the On300, coming in ranked No. 2 overall. An early enrollee at Georgia, Williams will have a chance to make an early impression. If he does what he did in high school, that’ll certainly be the case. Williams posted 81 total tackles including 57 solo stops with 20.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks as a senior. The year before he had even more sacks as a part of a 69-tackle, 19-TFL and 17-sack junior season. Williams signed with Georgia over USC, where he was previously committed. Given the turnover on Georgia’s roster, especially on defense, he could have a chance to come in early and compete for playing time right away.
