Newcomer Profile: Georgia place-kicker Peyton Woodring
Most of the 2023 Georgia recruiting class enrolled in January — almost 70 percent of it, actually. The Bulldogs welcomed 18 players to campus and 17 of them got a taste of spring practice. Sixteen of them finished spring drills and got the full spring semester experience in the Classic City.
The other eight are arriving this summer with most of them having already enrolled. They’re going to get right into the flow of things with summer workouts and classes, but it’s going to take some time for them to catch up.
With that in mind, DawgsHQ is taking one last look at them before they fully settle in under the Bulldogs’ roof. Next up is an uber-talented specialist.
PK Peyton Woodring
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 1,858 overall, No. 2 place-kicker, No. 70 in Louisiana
Kohl’s Comments: “Woodring won a spot in the Under Armour All-American Game at the National Invitational Scholarship Camp. He won the kick-off charts and also finished first on the field goal charts in July of 2022. In January, he scored an impressive 114 points on kickoffs. In December he scored 14 of 15 points on field goals and had a kickoff score of 110. Woodring also competed very well at the Kohl’s National Scholarship Camp in July of 2021. He scored 29 points out of 36 over the 2 days of field goal charting which was one of the top scores at camp. He generates a lot of energy into his kick-offs and it showed where he finished second in his class for average distance and hang-time for a combined total of 109.75 points. Woodring is one of the best prospects in the 2023 class and we expect big things for him in college!”
The Story…
There wasn’t much drama with this one. Georgia targeted Woodring early and got him on campus to kick in a camp setting. Alabama did the same but it was the Bulldogs that won out. He committed to Georgia over the summer and didn’t give the Bulldogs any reason to be concerned after that.

Where Woodring fits…
There’s a very real chance that Woodring will be the guy in his first season at Georgia. He’s going to get a chance to compete with Jared Zirkel for the starting place-kicker job and he might be tough to hold off. But all is not lost if he doesn’t win that job. Woodring has a huge leg and might be able to handle kickoffs as well. That’s something that Georgia likes to split up if it can.
Preseason camp expectations…
Zirkel was the leader in the place-kicking job coming out of spring and has been around for a few seasons. He, too, has a powerful leg. But this position is all about being able to handle things mentally. If Woodring has the right demeanor and can handle the pressure situations he’ll be put in on the practice field, he can earn the job. He will, however, have to hit the ground running.
