PHOTOS: Get a look at Georgia defense young and old
Georgia Athletics has shared some photos from Thursday’s action in Athens, and it’s a defensive-heavy set of shots. That’s aye-okay with the talent on that side of the ball for the Bulldogs with four and five-stars all over the field.
Thanks to the work of Tony Walsh, we’ve got an inside look at the Dawgs that’ll get it done on defense below.
Daylen Everette, Christen Miller and Damon Wilson are all stepping into larger spots this coming season. While Everette started every game last year and Miller was a key contributor on the defensive line, there’s no doubt that the trio is going to be looked towards to make an impact more. Everette is now CB1. Miller is sort of a swing guy for Georgia on the defensive line, needing more bodies and a disruptive force up front. Then there’s Wilson, a former five-star who has a chance to burst onto the scene. Keep these three in mind as UGA heads into the offseason and the upcoming fall.

This middle group pictured above (Mykel Williams, Raylen Wilson, JaCorey Thomas and Jalon Walker) features a trio of guys that very well could be regulars on the field for Georgia in 2024. With Williams, there’s no doubt that’ll be the case. He led UGA in sacks in 2022 and was key on the edge in 2023. Expect nothing different in 2024. Meanwhile, at inside linebacker, Georgia’s looking to see continued emergence from former top-50 players Wilson and Walker. While Smael Mondon and CJ Allen are probably your starters, the Bulldogs like to rotate and keep fresh legs on the field. Finally, with Thomas, here’s a guy that’s waited his turn. Georgia has a competition at safety, and he’s in the thick of it. A veteran that seems primed to take advantage of an available opportunity, Thomas is the kind of guy that College Football is all about.
The three players in the photos above are all either in their first or second season at Georgia. They’ve got the talent, but is the opportunity there? In the case of Justyn Rhett and Gabe Harris, the answer just might be yes. Each was on campus and got their feet wet in 2023. In 2024, they just might be able to make an impact. As for Jordan Thomas, the freshman defensive lineman is talented but has a ways to go before the Bulldogs can trust him on the field. With all three, it’s a big spring. Development is huge in Georgia’s defense, and now is the time to do so.
