PJ Horne enters transfer portal after missing last season at Georgia
Georgia Basketball’s PJ Horne entered the transfer portal on Friday afternoon, as reported by On3’s Matt Zenitz. Horne missed the entirety of the 2021-22 season after he tore his ACL in the preseason but started all 26 games for the Bulldogs the year before, one of just two Georgia players to do so.
Horne will be in his sixth season playing College Basketball, receiving a medical redshirt this past season and using his COVID super-senior year of eligibility in 2022-23 wherever he ends up. Former Georgia coach Tom Crean told media members at the end of the season that they were not expecting Horne to make an effort to play again collegiately. His decision on Friday indicates otherwise.
In his one season at Georgia, Horne averaged 8.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 28.4 minutes per game. He connected on a team-high 46 3-pointers, converting on at least one attempt in 21 of the 26 games the Bulldogs played. Horne scored in double-figures 11 times, including a career-high 21 points against Mississippi State, after doing so just 14 times in the 89 games he played at Virginia Tech. In the game against Mississippi State, Horne had career-bests in both field goals (seven) and 3-pointers (five). It was part of a four-game stretch ending non-conference play and beginning the SEC schedule where Horne scorer in double-figures each game. Horne’s highlight to season however did not come in that quartet of games, rather in Georgia’s win over Kentucky when he made the game-winning layup with 1.3 seconds left. It snapped a 14-game losing streak against the Wildcats that dated back to 2013.

Horne is the 11th member of the 2021-22 Georgia roster to enter the transfer portal. Two of those – Jaxon Etter and Kario Oquendo – ultimately decided to withdraw their name and stay at Georgia. The Bulldogs under the direction of new head coach Mike White also did their fair share of damage in the transfer portal, adding six new players from the portal.
