Quay Walker announces declaration for 2022 NFL Draft on social media
Georgia inside linebacker Quay Walker announced that he will forgo his remaining eligibility and declare for the NFL Draft in a post on social media earlier today. The announcement comes as no surprise, as the senior had already accepted an invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, set for Saturday, February 5th on NFL Network.
“First and foremost, I would like to give thank to the Man above for allowing me to be in the position I’m in today,” Walker wrote. “To Coach Smart, Coach Schumann and the entire football staff: Thank you for giving a kid from Southwest Georgia an opportunity to attend the best university in the world. These past 4 years flew by, but my time at UGA has allowed me to make countless memories and relationships with my brothers that will last forever.”
“To the University of Georgia fans: From the moment I stepped foot on campus, thank you for making my home stat just that – HOME. Thank you for the constant support and for being the best fans imaginable,” he continued. “Since I was a kid, it has always been my dream to play in the NFL. I came to Georgia to compete for a championship and to put me in a position to play the game I love at the highest level. With all the being said, I could not be more excited to take the next step in my journey and begin preparations for the NFL Draft! Thank you Georgia!”
Out of Crisp County High School in Cordele, Georgia, Walker has drawn a lot of attention from NFL scouts for his performance in the 2021 season. In his first season at Georgia, Walker appeared in all 14 games for the Dawgs, only putting up six total tackles. This most recent season, the inside linebacker finished with 67 tackles, with 5.5 of them for losses and 1.5 of them counted as sacks. Walker had the best performance of his career in Georgia’s rivalry win over Florida with 13 tackles. He had two stops for loss against Auburn, also a career-high. Walker capped things off with two strong performances in the College Football Playoffs, leading the team in tackles in the National Championship Game win over Alabama.

With his departure, Walker joins Nakobe Dean and Channing Tindall in leaving the inside linebackers room. That leaves Glenn Schumann to make the most out of what he’s got or go out and get more talent on National Signing Day or from the transfer portal. As it stands, young guys like Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Xavian Sorey and Smael Mondon will be asked to do more in 2022 alongside veteran options Rian Davis and Trezman Marshall. Georgia also signed two inside linebackers, Jalon Walker and C.J. Washington, both of whom are top-10 players at the position according to the On3 Consensus.
