WATCH: New Georgia DE pledge Quintavius Johnson junior highlights
Georgia landed a commitment seemingly out of nowhere on Wednesday night. Mays (Atlanta, Ga.) EDGE/defensive lineman Quintavius Johnson gave his pledge to the Bulldogs after working out for the staff earlier that day.
The former quarterback turned pass rusher was on the Georgia campus last month for the Scavenger Hunt, and event often reserved for major targets. He also held offers from the likes of LSU, Clemson, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Kentucky prior to pulling the trigger and committing to Georgia.
A quick look at his junior film reveals why, despite a three-star rating, Johnson is such a coveted prospect. At 6-foot-5, Johnson weighed in at 242 pounds at Georgia on Wednesday. He plays defensive end in an odd front for Mays, assuming a three or four-point stance.
According to DawgsHQ’s Rusty Mansell on the June 21 edition of The Georgia Show, Johnson impressed with his ability to play in a two-point stance at Georgia on Wednesday. He showed the ability to excel in space.

“Love the story of QB turned DL in Quintavius Johnson from Mays. I actually did his first ever game on TV as a Freshman and he looked like Darnell Washington running around at QB. Fast forward and his now 6-foot-5, 260 pound DE,” Mansell said recently. “…This is an athletic, raw guy that has a TON of ceiling left. I see it every year in the NFL draft, a player that comes out of no where and gets drafted. This year YaYa Diaby played at North Clayton and wound up being a 3rd round Draft pick at DE. This kid has so much in front of him, so just tuck him away for down the line.”
Labeling Johnson as an EDGE/OLB, he is the first commitment for the Bulldogs at that position in the 2024 class. Georgia has two commitments along the defensive line in Justin Green (defensive end) and Jordan Thomas (defensive tackle). The Bulldogs also host a major target this weekend in defensive end/defensive tackle Joseph Jonah-Ajonye. They hold over 96 percent of his On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
The Bulldogs are also in hot pursuit of Jordan Ross and Dylan Stewart as EDGE prospects. Ross is on the cusp of five-star status and Stewart is already there as the nation’s No. 7 overall prospect per the On3 Industry Ranking.
