ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia wide receiver London Humphreys is expected to be sidelined for this Saturday’s showdown against Alabama. According to multiple reports, Humphreys is dealing with mononucleosis. UGA head coach Kirby Smart addressed the reports Wednesday during the SEC coaches teleconference but deferred to the league’s official availability report that’ll be published later in the day.

“We’ll see when the reports come out. We still don’t have a lot of verification on some things. That’s what we do the injury reports for,” Smart said.

In three games this season, Humphreys has recorded a pair of catches. Both came against Clemson in the opener as the Vanderbilt transfer totaled 63 yards including a 40-yard touchdown in his Bulldog debut.

Prior to Georgia, Humphreys spent one season in his hometown playing for Vanderbilt. He caught 22 passes for 439 yards and four touchdowns on the season, ranking second on the team in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Georgia was on the wrong end of one of his biggest catches of the year as he put the Commodores up 7-0 against the Bulldogs back in October with a 49-yard catch and run for a score. The Nashville native also led the team in yards per reception among pass catchers who brought in more than three passes on the year.

A three-star recruit out of Christ Presbyterian Academy (Nashville, Tenn.), the same school as 2024 Georgia cornerback signee Ondre Evans, Humphreys recorded over 1,000 receiving yards during both his junior and senior seasons. He also was a standout on the track where he owns a regional-record 21.73 in the 200-meter dash previously held by Jalen Ramsey. Humphrey’s father, Clark, was an All-American pole vaulter at Auburn while mother, Erin, was an All-American decathlete at South Carolina.

While the loss of Humphreys for the top-5 contest isn’t going to do the Dawgs in, it does take a toll on their depth. Dominic Lovett, Dillon Bell, Arian Smith and Colbie Young have been counted on heavily alongside the Georgia tight ends, but Humphreys has been able to provide them with a breather when needed. His opportunities in the Clemson game came as a result of Bell going down with cramps. Without Humphreys, those off-the-bench opportunities might now go to Anthony Evans, Sacovie White or Michael Jackson.

Kickoff time for Georgia-Alabama is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday under the lights of Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. ESPN’s College GameDay will be in town to get the day going early before ABC (Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, Holly Rowe) has coverage of the game at night. The Bulldogs opened as 3.5-point favorites over the Crimson Tide with spreads now ranging anywhere between 2.5 and 1.5, all in favor of UGA.
