Former Georgia linebacker MJ Sherman is the latest player to commit out of the transfer portal. According to Sean Callahan of On3’s HuskerOnline, the five-star prospect from the Class of 2020 has committed to Nebraska.

In three seasons at Georgia, Sherman totaled 15 tackles with just one for loss and half a sack. When the Bulldogs were down pass rushers this season with Nolan Smith sidelined due to injury and both Robert Beal and Chaz Chambliss banged up as well, Sherman didn’t really seem to be given much consideration. Freshmen Marvin Jones Jr. and Jalon Walker were asked to take on bigger roles instead. Both will be back next season – as will Chambliss – and Georgia adds to its room a trio of On3 Consensus top-100 pass rushers with 2023 signees Damon Wilson, Samuel M’Pemba and Gabriel Harris.

Sherman established himself as an impact player on Georgia’s special teams units during his time in Athens. As a freshman he saw action in nine of 10 games before playing in all 15 each of the last two years. He had a tackle on kickoff coverage against TCU in the National Championship Game, one of five stops for Sherman this season.

Sherman is the third Georgia player to pick his next destination joining defensive lineman Bill Norton (Arizona) who did so before the Bulldogs’ bowl game and tight end Brett Seither, headed to Georgia Tech as of Monday.

Georgia hasn’t come away from the transfer portal empty handed however. The Bulldogs have landed a trio of their own commitments, all three of whom played in the SEC this past season. Mississippi State receiver Rara Thomas and Missouri’s Dominic Lovett both announced their commitments on the second day of the Early Signing Period back in December. Georgia announced their signings shortly after. Both Thomas and Lovett led their respective teams in receiving this past season with 626 yards in 12 games for the Mississippi State product and an All-SEC season for Lovett at Missouri. He hauled in 56 passes for 846 yards and three touchdowns to rank No. 3 in the SEC in terms of yards per game and No. 7 for catches per game.

Then, on Friday, Georgia dipped into the portal once again to land Deyon ‘Smoke’ Bouie from Texas A&M. The defensive back out of Bainbridge, Ga. was once a Bulldog commit before signing with the Aggies in their history Class of 2022. Bouie, the No. 84 overall prospect in the Class of 2022 per the On3 Consensus, appeared in seven games recording four tackles this past season.
