Roderick Robinson has big night in state championship victory
Georgia running back commit Roderick Robinson had himself a big weekend at the CIF State Championship Game. In what was his final game for Lincoln (San Diego, Calif.), Robinson tied a state championship record with four touchdowns. He also won California Player of the Year after being named winner of 2022 Silver Pigskin and Offensive Player of the Year by KUSI News in San Diego. Robinson ran for 218 yards and the four touchdowns on 22 carries in a 33-28 win over De La Salle to take home the title.
In 14 games this season, Robinson rushed for 2,378 yards and 37 touchdowns on 217 carries. He added two receiving touchdowns and 128 receiving yards on 12 receptions as Lincoln won its first California State Championship.
Coming into the season, Robinson was committed to UCLA. He flipped his commitment however on October 10th following an official visit to Athens the weekend before to see Georgia take on Auburn. Robinson is ranked the No. 5 running back in the country according to the On3 Consensus.
“I just loved everything they had going on at Georgia, from the brotherhood to the way the coaches interacted with all of the players,” Robinson told On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons. “And then the education is what set it off for me. In the SEC, you’re playing at the highest level against the best competition, and I feel like that gets you ready for the NFL. The coaching staff was just so genuine and the players got along with the coaches so well. And the education is top in the country.”

“I was considering Georgia before I came on my visit, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken my official,” he addedd. “But if you asked me if I was going to flip the next day, I’m not sure. But the visit was great, overall I loved it, and I decided to flip. … It was after all my meetings with all the coaches. After talking with Coach Smart and Coach McGee, everyone was on the same page and had the same plans for me and my family. Georgia is always contending in the SEC, but they’re also always contending in the country. They have a long list of running backs in the NFL. Not just in the NFL but producing at high levels in the NFL.”
Robinson, who received an in-home visit from running backs coach Dell McGee last week, plans to sign early and enroll early at Georgia this spring. Georgia is expected to lose senior running back Kenny McIntosh to the NFL Draft. At this time, Robinson is the only committed running back for the Bulldogs in the Class of 2022, a group that ranks No. 2 in the country.
