Salary information released for new Georgia men's basketball coach Mike White
New Georgia men’s basketball coach Mike White will make $3.4 million per year according to a statement released by the University in conjunction with the Athletic Association. There is no official word on the length of White’s contract. White was previously making $3.05 million per year at Florida while Tom Crean was making $3.2 million.
White spent the last seven seasons at Florida where he led the Gators to the postseason each year. Florida made each NCAA Tournament from 2017 to 2021, one of just 12 programs nationally and the only SEC program to do so, and won a game in each of their appearances. In 2017, the Gators made it all the way to the Elite Eight as a No. 4 seed before being upset by fellow SEC school South Carolina.
Prior to his time at Florida, White previously was the head coach for Louisiana Tech (2011-15) and an assistant at both Jacksonville State (2000-04) and Ole Miss (2004-11). He played collegiately at Ole Miss before a brief professional career with the New Mexico Slam of the now-defunct International Basketball League.
Overall, in his 10 years as a head coach, White’s teams made the postseason in eight of nine possible seasons. Louisiana Tech made the NIT three of four seasons, Florida made the NIT in White’s first season before making the four straight NCAA Tournaments.
“I am beyond excited for the opportunity to lead the men’s basketball program at the University of Georgia,” White said. “President Jere W. Morehead and Athletics Director Josh Brooks are united in a strong vision for UGA Basketball which resonated with me deeply. They believe, as I do, in developing our young men as students, athletes and leaders, as well as providing them with the support they need to be successful. I believe in the limitless future of Georgia Basketball.”
