SEC Championship game: what Munson would've worried about
The SEC Championship game is here again, and once again, Georgia played well enough to make it. LSU also found a way to Atlanta, with three more losses than the Dawgs.
Everyone is big on the Bulldogs this time around. Vegas has Georgia as a 17.5-point favorite.
If you aren’t familiar with SEC Championship game lines, it’s one of the biggest in its history.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels is banged up. His offensive line is suspect. The Dawgs’ defensive front is not.
LSU is good but not great on defense, despite its singularly great defender in Harold Perkins Jr.
Yes, there’s a lot to like about the Dawgs in this SEC Championship game.
But if you know what I do around here each week, and what Larry Munson did for years, then you know there is much doubt to be found in this matchup.
Without any further ado, here’s what Munson would’ve worries about: SEC Championship game edition.
Ya know you guys, this SEC Championship game used to mean something to our team
We played Arkansas in this thing 20 years ago now, and it was all we wanted to do. We didn’t have a playoff then of course, those Dawgs would have made it in.
But we wanted to break a drought. Incidentally that was also a 20-year deal there.
This team knows it can win and still get into that playoff.
Kirby Smart sounds motivated of course, but what about all of these 18-, 19-, 20-somethings and Stetson Bennett?
You know that Georgia’s motivation just can’t be as high as what LSU has. Their new coach wants to beat our tails and prove something here.
What do we have to prove? That we might want to play in Atlanta more than we want to play out there in the desert? Some real ‘first-world problems’ as people say these days.
I hope we can get up for this one before it’s too late.
Georgia never plays LSU close in this game, you know
It’s always a one-sided bloodbath when the Tigers and Dawgs meet, and I hate to remind you, it rarely works out for us.
Now, I don’t know if any of these players on either side can remember that or if they care.
But add to that fact that Kirby Smart still hasn’t beaten LSU, and all of the sudden we have some real bad ju-ju coming into this thing.
We haven’t even won the SEC Championship game in all of those attempts since 2017. Old Lady Luck tends to stay in Athens when we come here in December.
I sure hope someone got her a ticket this time around. She’s a real mysterious lady, and you’d like to think we’ve done enough to treat her right this holiday season but I just don’t know.
Can our offensive line block this Harold Perkins kid?
We couldn’t pick up half an inch when we needed one the last couple of weeks.
Not only that, but Perkins can really get after you in the passing game, too.
Is Stetson Bennett fully healthy for this one? Keep an eye on that, he seems banged up with that lack of passing the last couple weeks.
And we still don’t know a thing about AD Mitchell!
We got another Ojulari to contend with, and boy do we miss his brother. Wish we didn’t miss the younger one as a recruit.
Their quarterback may be banged up, too. But how do we shore things up in a big-time game without Nolan Smith? Just like when you forget to take an antacid before eating a hot pot of gumbo, his absence could really come back to bite us you guys.
Vegas likes us big. They’ve been right, and they’ve been real, real wrong, too. Guess we’ll find out here soon won’t we?
