SEC Media Days 2023: Georgia questions we want answered
One more sleep before Kirby Smart and his Georgia players take the stage at SEC Media Days. Junior tight end Brock Bowers, junior center Sedrick Van Pran, and junior cornerback Kamari Lassiter will join the eighth-year head coach to discuss a variety of topics, most of which will be germane to the team but plenty that will not.
DawgsHQ will have a chance to ask some of those questions and we’ll be keeping it between the lines (we think). With that in mind, let’s look at some we really want answered before the Bulldogs exit the Music City.
What’s up with Smael Mondon and Branson Robinson?
It has been difficult to get any concrete information on the two projected contributors/starters. Both suffered foot injuries during the last week of spring drills. Both had surgery to repair those injuries. Each was seen in a walking boot heading into the summer. That’s what we know. What we do not know is their status for camp or the likelihood that they’ll be on the field to start the season.
Now it’s worth noting that Smart is prone to saying that they’re day-to-day whether they are or not. That’s just his go-to line, but that doesn’t change the fact that we’d love some sort of answer or indication. At one point it sounded like Robinson might be ahead of Mondon in terms of his recovery but the buzz as of the past couple of days suggests that the opposite is true. You can probably see why we want to hear what Smart has to say at this point.
Does this Georgia team feel disrespected?
We all saw how Georgia was able to jazz itself up last season with the disrespect angle. It was understandable even if it was mostly fabrication. No one in their right mind picked Georgia to go 7-5 but the Bulldogs used that as a rallying cry. Sure, they lost a ton of talent to the 2023 NFL Draft but almost everyone had a healthy respect for the defending national champions.

Well, this team has back-to-back champs and fighting complacency won’t be easy. We’re interested to find out if there’s a disrespect card and from what angle will it be played. Smart is big on messaging and we’re ready to hear that message.
Can we get anything interesting on the Georgia youngsters?
When you have four team representatives and so many questions over a few-hour period, there’s a chance that something will trickle out about a first or second-year player. Somebody is going to let something slip or they’re going to throw caution into the wind and say something — maybe good, possibly bad, but probably interesting — about a young player.
We’ll be ready for it. One of the good things about SEC Media Days in the Twitter/social media era is that quotes, whether verbatim or paraphrased, often get disseminated right away. So will we learn something about the summer throwing sessions or the young pass rushers? What will that something be?
