Sedrick Van Pran returning to Georgia for 2023 season

Georgia’s 2023 offense got a massive boost on Friday when Sedrick Van Pran made it known that he plans to return for at least one more season. The New Orleans, La. native took to Twitter to make it known.
Van Pran has started 30 straight games at center starting with the 2021 season opener vs. Clemson in the Duke’s Mayo Classic. He has snapped the football for two National Championship teams.
He was the centerpiece of one of the best offensive lines in school history. The Bulldogs were the runner-up for The Joe Moore Award. They surrendered just nine sacks in 15 games, becoming the first program in the playoff era to appear in that many games with single-digit sacks allowed. Georgia also finished No. 2 nationally in tackles for loss allowed per game.
In Van Pran’s first season as a starter, 2021, Georgia ranked No. 14 nationally in yards per carry and placed No. 4 nationally in yards per play. The Bulldogs were No. 6 nationally in yards per pass attempt.
At the end of the 2022 season, Van Pran earned an honor that most redshirt sophomores do not. He was named team captain along with Stetson Bennett and Christopher Smith. He was a game day captain on multiple occasions as well.
“I like how connected this team is,” Van Pran explained this preseason. “If I’m being honest, connection was definitely something that we preached last year, but I think this year guys spend time outside of football together: fellowship, guys going to church together, cookouts together, and those types of things. I think those are the things that are the minute details that help you win in the long run.”

“I think the biggest thing is to not compare ourselves to last year. Like I was saying with the defense, and I know it sounds monotonous, but at the end of the day, I think when you compare yourself, you don’t give yourself the chance to be unique, the chance to truly explore how great you can be. I definitely think this year, one thing we’re doing well is spending a lot of time together off the field. That connection will be great.”
Van Pran as a prospect
Georgia battled Florida and LSU for the four-star prospect’s signature in the 2020 class. He waited until February to sign and the Bulldogs were able to hold off the Gators and Tigers despite a big staff change.
Sam Pittman left Georgia to become the head coach at Arkansas. Smart acted quickly in hiring Matt Luke, who convinced Van Pran to ink with the Bulldogs.
At 6-foot-4 310 pounds, Van Pran was the nation’s No. 81 overall prospect per the On3 Consensus. He was also the No. 1 center and the No. 3 player in Louisiana. He redshirted during the COVID-affected 2020 season.
