Eight ex-Georgia players had a chance to earn rings in Super Bowl LIX but only six of them were on the winning team. Philadelphia took down Kansas City 40-22 on Sunday, stopping the Chiefs’ effort at a history three-peat. Six Bulldogs are on the Eagles roster and all were part of the 2021 National Championship team.

Outside linebacker Nolan Smith and defensive linemen Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter were starters/major contributors for the Eagles in Sunday night’s game. Davis had a sack on Patrick Mahomes and both Carter and Smith applied consistent pressure. Between the three players, they combined for five hits on the quarterback with Smith and Carter tallying two apiece. Davis also had two solo stops and all three were dominant against the run.

Nakobe Dean was the inside linebacker and signal caller for the Eagles defense all season and into the playoffs but he suffered a torn patella tendon in the opening round win over Green Bay. That caused him to miss the rest of the postseason.

Kelee Ringo, who was taken by Philadelphia in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, is a reserve cornerback for Philly while also serving on multiple special teams units. Former Georgia safety Lewis Cine, after getting drafted in the first round by Minnesota in 2022, is a reserve safety for the Eagles.

Each of those players played major roles as Georgia broke a 41-year championship drought in 2021. Ringo and Smith are the only two players who were a part of both Georgia championships. Four of the six ex-UGA players on the Eagles were taken in the first round.

The Chiefs have a pair of Bulldogs on their roster, too. Last year’s Super Bowl hero, Mecole Hardman, came up short of his third straight title. The same can be said for defensive end Malik Herring, who played at Georgia from 2017 to 2020.
