The postseason award semifinalist groups are being announced en masse this week and quite a few Georgia players are seeing their names mentioned. Some of them are seeing it more than once, which is the case for Sixth-year senior quarterback Stetson Bennett and sophomore tight end Brock Bowers. Both were named as semifinalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

The award goes annually to the top collegiate football player in America as decided by a group of NCAA head football coaches and athletic directors with The Walter Camp Football Foundation helping guide the way. Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker won it last year and Alabama’s Devonta Smith the year prior to that. LSU quarterback Joe Burrow won the award in 2019.

Bennett is leading a Georgia offense that is averaging over 36 pass attempts per game. That’s the most the Bulldogs have put the ball in the air since Eric Zeier and company did it in 1994. That offense averaged 42 attempts per game.

The Blackshear, Ga. native has completed just under 68 percent of his passes this season for 2,895 yards 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also reached the end zone seven times with his legs this season, picking up 144 yards and 35 carries.

The Georgia offense ranks No. 6 nationally in points per game at 40.6 and the passing game sits at No. 13 nationally in yards per pass attempt. In addition to the Walter Camp honor, Bennett is also a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, and the Burlsworth Trophy, given annually to college football’s most outstanding player who started their career as a walk-on.

Bowers is Georgia’s leading receiver for the second straight season. He has amassed over 700 total yards and seven touchdowns in 2022 with most of that coming in the passing game. Bowers has hauled in 39 passes for 615 yards and four scores.

He also has four rushing attempts for 89 yards and three scores. Bowers has been responsible for three plays of 70-plus yards this season. In addition to the Walter Camp honor, the Napa, Calif. native is a semifinalist for the Mackey Award (top tight end), the Maxwell Award, and the Rotary Lombardi Award.

Bennett and Bowers have helped lead Georgia to a 10-0 record on the year with wins over two teams ranked in the top 12. The Bulldogs are No. 1 in all three sets of rankings and they are two games away from a second straight undefeated regular season.

Next up is Kentucky on Saturday. Kickoff at Kroger Field (Lexington, Ky.) is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Georgia will take on in-state rival Georgia Tech on November 26. That one will kick at noon ET on ESPN.
