Monday begins a stretch of two straight weeks for the National College Football Awards Association announcing preseason awards watchlists, and Georgia is bound to be well represented. The Maxwell Award, presented annually to the best all-around player in College Football by a panel of sportscasters, sportswriters, head coaches and Maxwell Football Club members, was the first to announce its watchlist with two Bulldogs making the cut.

Of the players included, 42 of them are quarterbacks including Stetson Bennett. Back for his sixth season playing College Football, Bennett led Georgia to a National Championship victory last season starting 12 games for the Bulldogs including the last 11. He completed 185 of his 287 attempts last season for 2,862 yards and 29 touchdowns while adding a 30th score on the ground. Bennett was named Offensive MVP of both the Orange Bowl and the CFP Championship Game as he combined for 537 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in the two Playoff games.

Tight end Brock Bowers is Georgia’s other member of the Maxwell Award watch list after he seemingly set every record in the books last season as a freshman. Bowers led the Bulldogs in the three major receiving categories hauling in 56 passes for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns, all the most in a single-season by a Georgia tight end and the most receiving touchdowns in a single-season regardless of position. The Napa, Calif. native was recognized in the conference as an First-Team All-SEC player by both the coaches and media, SEC Freshman of the Year by both groups, National Freshman of the Year by multiple groups and an All-American according to almost everybody in the country.
