Stetson Bennett & the Dawgs moving on to CFP: Watch / listen

New York was fun, but Stetson Bennett & his Dawgs teammates have bigger fish to fry. The real goal for Georgia fans isn’t Heisman Trophies and individual awards.

If you care about that, you should probably follow along with a Lincoln Riley-coached team.

At Georgia, Stetson Bennett‘s Heisman candidacy is worth a celebration in and of itself. It’s a special chapter in a magnificent, storybook career.

But I don’t think the Mailman would trade that stamp for the ultimate prize:

Georgia beating fellow Heisman Trophy candidate, CJ Stroud and his Ohio State Buckeyes before beating whoever may wait in the National Championship.

That’s how we started the party on our latest episode of The Georgia Show (LIVE on YouTube each Sunday and Wednesday night with replays there and on Apple / Spotify).

Other than Stetson Bennett’s Heisman trip, we got back to square one and just talked about Georgia’s identity pre – Ohio State

What makes the Dawgs the Dawgs this season?

After a week with no football, and only awards-season arguments to whet our appetites (we had to break down all of the Notre Dame angst over Brock Bowers winning the Mackey Award instead of Michael Mayer), what is the lasting legacy of this Georgia football team?

Well, you’ll have to listen for the full, nuanced answer.

But when you look at what this team does, it truly does seem as if the Dawgs dial up what needs to be dialed up to win.

A lot of teams wish they had the talent and focus to actually generate that pressure on quarterbacks and defensive coordinators and head coaches.

But it’s the hallmark of this Georgia football team so far.

Transfer portal updates and Dawg Stocks to end the show

We ended the show, as we do each Sunday, with our Dawg Stocks segment.

If you’re looking for insight and commentary on the Dawgs offense under Todd Monken, this is the episode for you, in that regard.

I gave a well-earned shoutout to Palmer Thombs for his job carrying our Heisman coverage over the weekend.

DawgsHQ senior editor Jake Rowe also has insight on Mississippi State transfer wide receiver Rara Thomas on his visit to Georgia.

The Dawgs need some help in the depth department at wideout in 2023.

Whether it’s Thomas or not, these Dawgs will be active in the transfer portal this offseason.

At the time of our live stream, we did not know what the prognosis on Thomas’s Mississippi State head coach, Mike Leach.

The ol’ pirate is so special to this sport that we love to watch and cover.

The DawgsHQ crew sends its best to Leach, his family, and all of our fellow Bulldogs to the west of us.
