Stetson Bennett took in the sights and sounds of Corey Smith at the Georgia Theatre over the weekend.

If you aren’t familiar with Smith’s work, one of his most popular songs within Georgia circles is called ‘Every Dawg.’

It’s about the bittersweet relationship Georgia fans have with the Dawgs, while chasing down that elusive National Championship.

Well, that song gained immense popularity in the mid-2000’s.

Obviously, the storyline changed this past season. As a result, Corey Smith had some editing to do.

Corey Smith performs Georgia National Championship edition of ‘Every Dawg’ at the Georgia Theatre.

With Stetson Bennett in attendance, Corey Smith played the first few loops of ‘Every Dawg’ for a raucous Georgia Theatre crowd.

The lyrics, for the uninitiated:

A long ride back from Jacksonville
500 miles from a game we should’ve won
Man, we oughta’ burn down that stadium
Thought this year was gonna’ be ours
Talkin’ too much junk in those Florida bars
Now I’m stunned
Man, I wish it was 1981

And I know why they say,
‘Every Dawg has his day.’
Can’t win every game we play
But every Dawg has his day

Longing for those glory days
Like the one when he cried, “Run, Lindsey, Run!”
I was too young to be there, but I’m sure it was fun
Bet that crowd was flyin’ high
And I bet Glory to Ol’ Georgia was cried as the band played
Man, I wish I could feel that way today

And I know why they say,
‘Every Dawg has his day.’
Can’t win every game we play
But every Dawg has his day

And I play back my favorite victories
Like that last minute win up in Tennessee
I bet them hobnails hurt like hell
And I got sweet memories of 2002
Won the SEC and the Sugar Bowl, too
Man, we had a ball on Bourbon Street
Those were the days

At this point in the performance, Smith did his best Stetson Bennett, and called an audible.

Take a listen to the performance here to check out how he switched up the lyrics to reflect Georgia’s National Championship effort.

(Warning in case the little ones are around – there’s some colorful language)

A new edit to this track was a long time coming for many Georgia fans

Pretty cool that Stetson Bennett, the quarterback who led Georgia to that National Championship victory, got to hear it in Athens, too.

Whether you’re familiar with Corey Smith’s work or not, many a Dawgs fan will get chills at that barking reaction to close the live Georgia Theatre performance.
