Stetson Bennett stumps for Georgia OL to win Joe Moore Award
Georgia is having quite the post season on the awards and accolades circuit. Several Bulldogs find themselves in contention for awards and one has already been taken home. There is, however, just one group that has a chance to be honored. The offensive line is a finalist for the Joe Moore Award and Stetson Bennett is running the campaign.
The sixth-year senior quarterback took to Twitter, not a consistent occurrence, to make a case for The Bulldogs front five over No. 2 Michigan.
“Just turn on the tape. Nothing against Michigan, I’m sure Coach Moore’s group had a great year,” Bennett said. “But just turn on the tape. You’ll see a Buncha big, smart ATHLETES playing physical as hell. When we go we go because of them. #obvious #7sacks #dudes“
Bennett is one of four finalists for the 2022 Heisman Trophy due in large part to his offensive line. As he points out, the group allowed just seven sacks all season long. That ties the Bulldogs for second nationally. They also rank No. 2 nationally in tackles for loss allowed per game.

The run game has also flourished this season and it has really improved as the year has gone on. Georgia ranks No. 9 nationally in yards per carry and Todd Monken’s offense is ranked No. 7 nationally in total offense if you look at yards per play.
“I think we spoke about it before, I had high expectations of this offensive line from the beginning, and I’ve been very pleased with this offensive line group,” Kirby Smart said last month. “I try to compare them relative to other offensive lines, not other Georgia offensive lines, other offensive lines we face in the current year. Because collectively, I don’t know that the quality of football right now is as good as it’s been in two, three, four years ago. It’s just hard to find really good quality units in all aspects. That’s across the NFL, it’s across college football, it’s across high school football, everybody you talk to. I’m very pleased with the way our unit has performed.”
We’ll get a chance too see both of the contending offensive lines in the 2022 College Football Playoff. Michigan’s o-line won the award last year and it will be in action against No. 3 TCU in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on December 31 at 4 p.m. ET. Georgia will take on No. 4 Ohio State that same day in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET. Both games will be televised by ESPN.
