Is Stetson Bennett's Heisman candidacy 'UNFAIR' to other CFB players?

People are maaaaad that Stetson Bennett made it into the elite club of 2022 Heisman Trophy finalists. In a way, it’s a microcosm of his whole career.

‘Sorry fella, this is for the big boys only. The guys with elite arms and first-round NFL hopes.’

‘You go sit over there and watch while your defense does all the work for you.’

Of course, you – the educated College Football fan that you are – know that Stetson Bennett does belong in New York.

You watched him play against top-25 and SEC opponents.

His offensive prowess doesn’t dominate the stat sheet every week, but you know how vital he is in running Todd Monken’s death-by-a-thousand-axes offense.

You saw him stuff the SEC West champion LSU Tigers’ defense into a field-goal-net barrel*.

(If you know, you know.)

You know that just because Hendon Hooker should probably be a finalist, that doesn’t make Bennett unworthy.

Whether you already knew all of those things about Stetson Bennett, or you didn’t, DawgsHQ Senior Editor Jake Rowe and myself analyzed the Bennett blowback on our latest episode of The Georgia Show:

We hit the Stetson Bennett Heisman points early and often, while also previewing Georgia-Ohio State in the Peach Bowl

While everyone else is playing with the shiny object of Stetson Bennett’s Heisman candidacy, Jake and I jumped right into the Georgia-Ohio State discussion.

This Ohio State offense is the best unit – talent-wise, depth-wise, and execution-wise – that Georgia will face all year.

But we both happen to believe that the same could be said of Georgia’s offense when it comes to Ohio State’s opposition.

How good are the teams that the Buckeyes rolled up their stats against?

As it turns out, in the Big Ten, it just means… less.

Don’t miss the actual specific statistical breakdown on the show (YouTube / Apple / Spotify).

Georgia’s transfer portal scoop and Choppin’ Wood

Georgia will be a player in the transfer portal game.

And the Dawgs appear to want some help at receiver.

Rowe shares Georgia’s approach to the portal, and a couple of the names in the mix (Rara Thomas, Dante Cephas) are players Georgia already tried to defend this year.

If you can’t beat em, transfer to ’em? We’ll see. Rowe also had a quick nugget on EDGE prospect Damon Wilson leading up to National Signing Day.

As we do each week, we also chopped some wood about a couple topics.

I chopped wood about some bulletin board material courtesy of an Ohio State legend.

Rowe had more on a player that Georgia will not want to take out of the portal, even though it seems like a good fit.
